Summary.By means of injections of prostigmine a comparative study of the effect of ether and curare in the motor endplate has been carried out. The results of the investigation are:1Prostigmine affects the neuro‐muscular transmission which is inhibited by ether and curare in different ways. This demonstrates that the substances must exert their effect in the motor endplate by essentially different mechanisms.2The effect of ether can be only partly explained by a decreased sensitivity for ACh of the muscle cells.3On the basis of previous in vitro‐experiments, ether has been suggested to have a prostigmine‐like effect. Summary.Determinations of the pyruvate and lactate content of capillary blood during the steady state of heavy muscular work showed, that both substances are found in increasing amounts with increasing severity of work. Summary.It was found that the pyruvate (and lactate) content of the blood during work could vary considerably without any resulting effect on the ventilation, and further that the injection of 40 mg of pyruvic acid into the veins of a dog weighing 12 kg had no effect on its ventilation. It is concluded that pyruvic acid is not the substance that during work in partly anaerobic conditions causes the increase in ventilation.

Summary.1Beef heart extracts purified by adsorption on Al(OH)3were assayed in terms of I‐adrenaline and I‐noradrenaline on cat's blood pressure, hen's rectal caecum and rat's non‐pregnant uterus.2Using the hen's rectal caecum in conjunction with the cat's blood pressure as a test preparation, the biological assay of heart extract was found to contain 8 % to 20 % adrenaline and 92 % to 74 % noradrenaline. The auricle extracts showed 8 % to 11 % adrenaline while the ventricle extracts gave 16.6 % to 26 % adrenaline.3The heart extract had an antagonistic effect upon the response of the hen's rectal caecum to adrenaline and noradrenaline. This inhibition of the adrenaline and noradrenaline was usually more marked in the case of adrenaline. Further the ratio of adrenaline to noradrenaline was generally altered after the use of cardiac extract.4Using the method of paper chromatography, the heart extract produced three distinct spots. These were adrenaline, noradrenaline and an unknown factor. All three spots were separately laked and the resulting three substances were biologically assayed. The unknown spot had the same inhibitory effect upon adrenaline and noradrenaline in the rectal caecum as did the original heart extract. Summary.X‐ray absorption by the lungs has been recorded, by means of the electrokymograph constructed by ENGSTRÖM, KJELLBEEG, PERSSON and EUDHE, while altering the blood contents of the legs. It has been possible by this to record an increase in the amount of blood occurring in different parts of the lungs in direct connection with a sudden decrease of the blood in a part of the systemic circuit. Summary.A study is made of the changes in the ascorbic acid content of the corpus luteum of pregnancy in the rabbit (12th day of pregnancy) at varying times (45 minutes to 48 hours) after the intravenous administration of 450 I. U. of pregnant mare serum gonadotrophn (PMS).Gonadotrophic stimulation gives rise to changes in the weight of the corpus luteum (+ 39 per cent after 12 hours, – 18 per cent after 48 hours). This fact must be taken into consideration in the calculations of the ascorbic acid content.Gonadotrophic stimulation causes a rapid, relatively considerable fall in the ascorbic acid content,i. e.10 per cent after 45 minutes, 22 per cent after 11/2hours and 25 per cent after 3 hours.
