摘要:
The utility can maintain the lowest cost and adequate service to the customer by adding and implementing a meter‐service planning program. Such a program can reach its objective by adopting design criteria set forth in this article and by adjusting the criteria in accordance with ongoing research.

摘要:
Although present technology may not be equal to the task of providing “ideal” water, water supplies can be processed to exceed the require ments set forth by 1962 USPHS standards. The authors review past water‐treatment practices, analyze those presently in vogue, and discuss future prospects.

摘要:
Most treatments for coagulation now in vogue leave the water‐treatment operator with a potential pollution problem. The authors describe their laboratory work with the use of a coagulant that can be recycled and, moreover, that permits the operator greater latitude in “doctoring” the waters’ qualities in order to minimize potential corrosion problems. This is the first of two articles. Next month the JOURNAL will present the second installment, which will discuss the economic aspect.

摘要:
Some forms of mercury are more insidious than others, and these forms are also among the more difficult to analyze. The method described by the authors is said to overcome many obstacles inherent in other methods. The authors provide some background with regard to mercury testing and then detail the procedure that evolved at their lab.

摘要:
The recent research literature shows that nearly all of the water‐treatment processes in present use are under research investigation in order to define better their virus‐removal capacity. Although some recent efforts have defined the basic mechanisms of virus removal, greater research efforts are needed in this direction.
