SummaryVarious treatments for porphyria cutanea tarda have been developed and a number of these appear to be effective.Methods of treatment advocated include alkalinization of the urine, venesection, chelation and chlorquineIt is difficult to assess the relative merits of these treatments and, in spite of the various theories advanced, there appears to be no agreed exact biochemical explanation for the efficacy of any of these treatments.Since 1969 our routine management of porphyria cutanea tarda has been with low dosage chloroquine therapy, 7.5 mgm twice weekly, and this has proved safe, effective, and easy‘to manage. Remissions of several years’duration have been obtained. SummaryTwo unrelated mentally deficient patients with the uncommon epidermodysplasia verruciformis syndrome were studied. Verrucae planae were demonstrated by light microscopy and malignant lesions with transitional forms were evident in one case. SummaryReports of eighteen eases of seborrhoeic keratosis showing varying degrees of cellular atypicality have been collected. It is almost certain that many more cases are filed under diagnoses implying malignancy. In common with similar lesions reported previously by various authors as malignant transformation, these lesions showed the characteristic pattern of seborrhoeic keratosis with, in addition, pleiomorphism, cellular anaplasia and abnormal mitotic activity in some degree. The lesions occurred predominantly in sun‐exposed areas of patients who were over fifty years of age. Most lesions were of long duration. None of the lesions have shown any convincing evidence of malignant behaviour. It is suggested that the lesion should be regarded as an atypical seborrhoeic keratosis until more convincing proof of its malignant potential is established.
