摘要:
Abstract.According to Jackendoff (1987b, 1990) conceptual structure consists of, at least, two tiers: the thematic tier (roles Agent (i.e. causer), Theme, Location, Goal, Source, Route) and the action tier (the roles Actor, Undergoer, Patient, and Beneficiary). This paper discusses the assignment of the action tier roles. The theory proposed in this paper abandons the lexical indexing and suggests that action tier role assignment is based on free principles. In Jackendoff's theory (1990) argument linking is primarily based on the action tier and only secondarily on the thematic tier (cf. Foley&Van Valin 1984). According to the present investigation the action tier cannot have any major role in argument linking.

摘要:
Abstract. In this paper I give an account of the descriptive generalization that although clauses can appear in Caseless positions, they need Case when they move to subject position or undergo Topicalization. The analysis presented in the paper is shown to have broad theoretical consequences. Among other things, it provides support for the Greed Principle. It also provides evidence that clauses can bear Case features and that direct object nominal elements undergoing syntactic movement from within VP must pass through Spec., AgroP in the overt syntax. I also argue that the facts considered in the paper provide evidence for the morphological and against the theta‐theoretic account of the Case Filte

摘要:
Abstract. In this paper I examine the rules for placement of clitics in a selected number of Slavic languages. I propose that the placement of argument clitics is dictated by a functional category, Finiteness, whereas for extended clitic chsters it is dictated by clause‐initial structure, analysed in terms of a construct preliminarily called FRONT. I argue that it is the language particular requirements on FRONT that determine the distribution of extended clitic cluster
