AbstractBei der Diskussion um die Genese der Marsch ist die Bedeutung des Sedimentgefüges für das Bodengefüge und die daraus resultierenden Eigenschaften der Böden oft zu wenig beachtet worden. Nach Definition einiger häufig mißverstandener Begriffe werden Bodentypen mit unterschiedlichen Gefügeeinflüssen beschrieben:1, dietypischen tonigen Marschbödenmit sehr unterschiedlichem Aggregatgefüge: Die gut durchlüftete und durchlässige, unterschiedlich kalkhaltige SEEMARSCH mit stabilem Polyeder und Prismengefüge aus marinen Sedimenten mit geflocktem Kartenhausgefüge; die staunasse BRACKMARSCH mit in sich dichten grobprismatischen bis säulenartigen Gefügeelementen aus Sedimenten des Brackwassers mit teilweise ‐ infolge Dispergieung der Sedimentteilchen ‐ horizontal orientiertem dichtem Gefüge; die mäßig durchlässige, oft grundnasse FLUSSMARSCH mit mittel‐ bis grobprismatischem Gefüge aus fluviatilen Sedimenten mit feinaggregiertem Gefüge.2. dieschluff‐/feinstsandreichen Marschbödenmit Kohärentgefüge, aus denen ‐ bei starker Verschlämmungsneigung und geringer Luftkapazität ‐ die HAFTNÄSSEMARSCH entsteht;3. diepflanzenrest‐ und tonreichen, oft extrem sauren Marschböden, die bei ungegliedertem Kohärentgefüge die in der Regel hoch durchlässige und stark grundnasse ORGANOMARSCH bilden. AbstractBei experimenteller Erarbeitung von Sollwerten für die N‐Düngung reduzieren sich die Komponenten des N‐Haushaltes auf Nmin‐Sollwert, Nmin‐Vorrat und N‐Düngung. Alle anderen Prozesse der N‐Dynamik gehen im Düngungsversuch unbemerkt in den Sollwert ein.Sollen Nmin‐Sollwerte jedoch kalkulatorisch ermittelt werden, so ist eine derart vereinfachte Betrachtungsweise nicht mehr möglich, sondern es müssen die wichtigsten Komponenten des N‐Haushaltes ausgewählt und quantifiziert werden.Bisherige Ansätze für eine Kalkulation des Nmin‐Sollwertes berücksichtigen immer die N‐Aufnahme der Kultur (oft als “N‐Bedarf” bezeichnet), häufig den notwendigen Restgehalt an Mineralstickstoff zum Erntetermin in der durchwurzelten Bodenschicht, manchmal die N‐Nachlieferung während der Kulturzeit. Immission, Denitrifikation, Auswaschung im Sommerhalbjahr u.a. werden nur in wenigen Fällen einbezogen.Die Berechnung von Nmin‐Sollwerten aus N‐Aufnahme der Kultur + notwendigem Restgehalt an Mineralstickstoff im Boden minus N‐Nachlieferung ergibt in allen geprüften Fällen deutlich niedrigere Werte als bei Ermittlung im Düngungsversuch. Erst die Einbeziehung einer kalkulatorisch ermittelten Größe “Fehlbetrag” führt zu einer befriedigenden Übereinstimmung zwischen beiden Werten. AbstractCitrate can accumulate in the rhizosphere of phosphate (P) deficient plants. Therefore, P desorption was investigated in relation to citrate concentrations applied in a single or sequential mode to a Luvisol and a Podzol. Cumulative P desorption increased up to 20 times that of the control, the absolute increase being higher in the Podzol. The rate of P release was closely related to the rate of Fe+Al release indicating that desorption originated mainly from Fe/Al associated P. The mode of citrate loading affected the P desorption in an ambiguous manner. P‐diffusion coefficients were calculated from the desorption data. The coefficients strongly increased with citrate loading, the increase being more pronounced in the Podzo

AbstractThe presence of electrolyte in the solution, increases the amount of adsorbed anions. This increase, mainly depends on the kind of electrolyte, the concentration in the solution and the pH of treatment.In this work the process of phosphate adsorption in acid soils (Dystric subgroups of Inceptisols and Entisols) with and without use of electrolyte, was studied in order to find the real adsorption capacity of soils and the equations that fit to the adsorption data.It was found out that the shape of the isotherms obtained without electrolyte was different from that with electrolyte. The amount of the adsorbed anions was higher in the later case. The Freundlich equation gave a good fit to the isotherm data and the exponent of Freundlich equation was correlated with some properties of the soils.

AbstractHumus properties of 42 soil samples or humic extracts of Ap horizons of Cambisols and Luvisols, from different field plots, kept for a long time under continuous management conditions, have been studied by quantitative CPMAS13C NMR‐spectroscopy. The shift range of the spectra were divided into 8 regions, with carbon absorptions from 0–45 (aliphatics), 45–60 (OCH3), 60–80 (COCN), 80–110 (anomeric carbons), 110–140 (aryl—C), 140–160 (O‐aryl‐C) and 160–210 (COOHCO) ppm, respectively. Although soil samples and humic extracts were obtained from plots from different locations and sometimes widely differing organic carbon contents, variances in the relative absorptions of the selected ranges were rather small. Several absorptions were significantly correlated among each other or with soil carbon and microbial biomass contents. These correlations were discussed with the applied management and with other results about humus formation and properties. AbstractA sensitive enzyme immunoassay (EIA) based on polyclonal antibodies from sheep was used to screen for atrazine in electro‐ultrafiltration (EUF) soil extracts without clean‐up. Matrix effects were circumvented by diluting the aqueous EUF extracts. The EUF proved to be a convenient method for the extraction of atrazine residues in soil. The efficiency of EUF appeared to be equivalent to that of organic extraction methods except on weathered residues, which generally resulted in lower yields. Both the combined gas chromatography/automated Soxhlet (GC/Soxtec) and the immunochemical technique EIA/EUF yielded similar data for the 26 soil samples identified as positive (>0.02 mg/kg) during the first screening of 479 EUF extracts by the

AbstractThe spatial variation of the chemical composition of soil water under a 75 year old spruce stand on a stagni‐orthic Acrisol was investigated. Soil water was sampled with 72 suction probes from depths of 0.2 m and 0.7 m. Sampling points formed a grid of 9 × 8 nodes with an average spacing of 5 m. Sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium concentrations and pH were measured on 12 dates. The statistical distributions of the properties were mainly lognormal. Coefficients of variation mostly ranged between 20 % and 60 %. Trees had a clear influence on sample volumes and element concentrations. The latter increased generally in the neighbourhood of the stem. The coefficient of variation of the properties was not constant through time. AbstractIn drei Versuchsjahren wurden in Winterweizendüngungsversuchen an einem Schwarzerdestandort sechs Verfahren der N‐Bedarfsdiagnostik getestet und hinsichtlich Praktikabilität und Treffsicherheit der abgeleiteten Düngungsempfehlungen miteinander verglichen.Sowohl das Pflanzenanalyseverfahren (N‐Gehalt in der Sproßbiomasse) als auch der Nitratschnelltest mit Diphenylamin‐Schwefelsäure sowie mit Indikatorpapier signalisierten unter den trockenen Bedingungen der Versuchsjahre teilweise deutlichen N‐Mangel und gaben Düngungsempfehlungen, die nicht in Ertrag umgesetzt wurden. Unabhängig davon zeigte der Vergleich beider Schnelltestmethoden eine unbefriedigende Übereinstimmung. Die Farbwerte des Testes mit Indikatorpapier wiesen eine geringere Reproduzierbarkeit auf. Die Remission abgeschnittener jüngster Blätter am Spektralphotometer bei einer Wellenlänge von 550 nm ließ sich auf den N‐Gehalt in der Biomasse zurückführen. Die visuelle Bonitur dieser. AbstractAmmonium salts used as fertilizers may cause soil acidification by two different processes: nitrification in soil and net release of protons from roots. Their influence on soil pH may vary depending on the distance from root surface. The aim of this study was to distinguish between these two processes. For this purpose rape seedlings were grown 10 d in a system which separated roots from soil by a fine‐meshed screen. As a function of distance from the plane root layer formed on the screen, pH, titratable and exchangeable acidity and NO3‐ and NH4‐nitrogen were determined. The soil, a luvisol from loess, was supplied with no N or (NH4)2SO4either with or without a nitrification inhibitor (DCD). The bulk soil pH remained unaffected when no N or 400 mg NH4N kg−1soil plus DCD was applied but it decreased from 6.6 to 5.8 without DCD. In contrast, rhizosphere pH decreased in all cases, mainly within a distance of 1 mm from the root plane only, but with gradients extending to between 2 and 4 mm into the soil. The strongest pH decrease, from 6.6 to 4.9, occurred at the root surface of plants treated with both NH4‐N and DCD where most of the mineral N remained as ammonium. In this case Al was solubilized in the rhizosphere as indicated by exchangeable acidity. Total soil acidity produced in the NH4treatment without DCD was mainly derived from nitrification compared to root released protons. However, acidification of the rhizosphere was diminished by nitrification because nitrate ions taken up by the roots counteracted net proton release. It is concluded that nitrification inhibitors may reduce proton input from ammonium fertilizers but enhance acidification at the soil‐root interface which may cause Al toxic
