摘要:
A brief synthesis of presocial evolution in the insect order Coleoptera is presented. Most beetles are solitary, but in many species and/or higher taxa conglobations, aggregations and a wide variety of parental care types is known. The nonparental forms of inter-individual association are mostly pheromone controlled aggregations without phenotype changes. Within the range of parent-offspring relationships the most interesting sociogenetic events have been observed, and in at least seven-eight families (or “subfamilies”) a true subsocial level is attained.

摘要:
Proximate and ultimate factors influencing clustering behaviour in the mangal-dwelling hermit crabClibanarius laevimanusBuitendijk 1937 were studied in Kenya. First, a reasonable hypothesis to understand the homing performance of this species is menotactic or compass orientation towards the tidal current. Second, clustering may serve as a “shell exchange market” for those specimens who were wearing inappropriate shells.

摘要:
Some preliminary conclusions were drawn from a comparison between wild and laboratory born juvenile hermit crabsC. erythropus:in the former the behavioural repertoire consisted chiefly of a series of visual displays. A short period of isolation seemed to enhance their aggressive tendencies. The lack of social experience in the laboratory born juveniles had no appreciable effects on the quality of the action patterns.

摘要:
An Afrotropical scarab beetle, the ball-rollerKheper aeratus(Gerstaecker), was reared in controlled conditions. Nesting behaviour and parental care are described. This behaviour is interpreted in the framework of subsociality in Scarabaeidae.

摘要:
An analysis is made of the drifting phenomenon between different colonies ofApis mellifera ligusticaSpin, and on the basis of direct observation and reference to the literature, a hypothesis is put forward concerning the influence of various components on this phenomenon. It is concluded that drifting is only one aspect of a more general and constant phenomenon of dispersal of the bees between the hives situated in one biotope.

摘要:
Foundresses ofPolistes gallicus(L.) can find themselves deprived of their colonies, particularly after nest predation occurring in the pre-emergence period. This study, conducted mainly in the field, revealed that females who lose their nests resort to two different reproductive strategies: usurpation of an intraspecific colony or foundation of a new nest. The first strategy is only employed in the preemergence period, when the absence of workers on alien nests reduces the risk involved; the second is adopted throughout the season, when a foundress can embark on the project with the help of her workers.
