摘要:
Gene frequencies and parent-offspring migration data from nine geographic subdivisions in Iceland are analyzed. Estimated values of FST show high genetic homogeneity. Genetic maps are studied and the results are interpreted in the light of social and historical patterns. Actual road distances between subdivisions provide a slightly better indication of geographic isolation by distance than do straight-line distances. A high correlation between genetic structure predicted by migration data and the structure estimated from gene frequencies is obtained.

摘要:
The inbreeding patterns and coefficient of inbreeding (F) of 3,350 new-borns in Bangalore, Karnataka were determined. A total of 29.24% were born of consanguineous marriages, F = 0.02313. Inbreeding was most common among the Hindus: 23.56% of their marriages were uncle-niece, F for the group was 0.02670.

摘要:
Genetic polymorphism of glycine-rich β-glycoprotein (GBG) was studied in populations from northern and southern Italy, respectively. Gene frequencies were as follows: northern Italy (n = 431): GbS = 0.7675, GbF = 0.2049, GbS0.7 = 0.0127, GbF1 = 0.0139; southern Italy (n = 161): GbS = 0.7050, GbF = 0.2360, GbS0.7 = 0.0373, GbF1 = 0.0217. Comparison of these two populations with the Swiss population revealed a significant drift in gene frequencies from north to south. A new GBG phenotype, supposedly heterozygous, with a slow migrating F band and a regular S band in agarose electrophoresis was observed

摘要:
Relevant to the investigation of genetic factors involved in allergic response is the mode of inheritance of IgE levels, an important factor in allergic disease. Serum total IgE levels in 208 Pennsylvania Amish individuals from 23 nuclear families were studied. Males had a significantly higher mean in IgE level than females. There was also a significant negative relationship between age and IgE levels. Segregation analysis was used to fit a major gene model to the age- and sex-adjusted data. The environmental model was rejected (χ2 = 41.12, p < 0.005). The Mendelian codominant model was not rejected χ2= 8.84, p < 0.03) and gave a better fit to the data than the Mendelian dominant or recessive mode

摘要:
158 Seattle pedigrees selected through hyperlipidemic survivors of myocardial infarction were partitioned into nuclear families with pointers, and complex segregation analysis under a mixed model (major locus and multifactorial transmissible component) was performed on cholesterol and triglyceride measurements. Results confirm the existence of a dominant allele for hypercholesterolemia, whereas for triglyceride segregation of a major locus was not supported. Familial combined hyperlipidemia may be an artefact of multi-trait two-stage selection.

The demographic parameters for evolutionary population size N, effective systematic pressure m, and standard deviation of short-range migration σ may be estimated from the Malécot parameters for isolation by distance. This is shown to be accurate in simulated and actual data, giving rather small values of N and substantial values of m. An extension is suggested to partition the effective systematic pressure into short-range and long-range components. The genetic structure of populations may now be determined from bioassay of kinship, without dependence on evidence from migration and genealogy which remains valuable but no longer indispensabl

Frequencies for the electrophoretically detectable alleles of galactose-1-phosphate uridyl transferase were determined from 406 neonates in Adelaide. GALT*D and GALT*LA frequencies were 0,054 and 0.027, respectively. The expected proportion of heterozygotes was 15.3%, with a GALT N-D component of 10%. 125 Sudanese patients suffering from vitiligo were investigated for the distribution of serum proteins (haptoglobins and transferrins), red cell enzymes (acid phosphatase, 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase, phosphoglucomutase and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase) and hemoglobins. The results were compared with the published healthy population series investigated for the same genetic markers. There was no significant association with any of the marker systems in vitiligo except glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase. An excess deficiency of this enzyme was observed in vitiligo patients compared to the control series.

The C3 phenotypes were determined by high-voltage agarose gel electrophoresis in 125 Greenland Eskimos. The frequency of the C3F gene was significantly lower than in a control group of Danes.

320 adults and children of an isolated community of Bali, Indonesia, have been tested for blood groups ABO, Rh, MNS, P, Lewis, Duffy, Kell, for haptoglobin and transferrin and for hepatitis B surface antigen and antibodies. Phenotype distribution and gene frequencies are given for the total population tested and for two subgroups representative of the inbred population of the isolate and of the non-inbred part of the population. Significant differences between the two subgroups show a clear genetic drift in the inbred population. The study brings biological support to the ethnological hypothesis of population migrations in this area. Tests for hepatitis B surface antigen reveal a lower prevalence of the disease than in most other south-east Asian populations.
