摘要:
AbstractThe following is a description of an investigation into the optimum conditions for the preparation of peroxides by incomplete oxidation of propane. Special attention has been paid to the optimum formation of hydrogen peroxide. In connection with the removal of heat, it is probably only possible to use a 90/10 propane‐oxygen mixture in a technical apparatus. With this mixture the optimum production of hydrogen peroxide was found at an average reaction temperature of 465°C and a contact time of 4 sec.Under these conditions 15 moles of peroxides (9 moles of which was free hydrogen peroxide) was formed per 100 moles of propane used. At the same time 83 moles of propene was formed, in addition to 87 moles of water, 34 moles of carbon oxides, 12 moles of aldehydes, 1 mole of alcohol and 1 mole of hydrog

摘要:
AbstractSome derivatives of dianisoylmethane are described. The action of absolute nitric acid upon dianisoylmethane and para‐methoxydesoxybenzoin is investigated. The first compound forms 1,3‐diparamethoxyphenyl‐1,3‐dioxo‐2‐nitropropane (dianisoylnitromethane). Beside this reaction the molecule is oxidized to anisic acid, while, depending on the reaction circumstances, 3‐nitro‐ and 3,5‐dinitroanisic acid are formed.Anisic acid and 3‐nitroanisic acid form a molecular compound in the ratio 1:1.Upon nitrating p‐methoxydesoxybenzoin, nitro groups are introduced into the benzene nucleus, while at the same time the. CO. CH2. C6H5group is repl

摘要:
AbstractA dimensionless equation has been derived for the mass transfer coefficient in the liquid phase (k1) both for physical and chemical absorption.The equation can be written:\documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$$ {\rm Sh} = {\rm c}\,{\rm Re}^{2/3} {\rm Sc}^{1/3} {\rm Ha} $$\end{document}where the dimensionless groups2) have the following significance:\documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$$ \begin{array}{rl} {{\rm Sh} = } & {\frac{{{\rm k}_1 }}{{\rm D}}\left( {\frac{{\eta ^2 }}{{{\rm g}\varrho ^2 }}} \right)^{1/3} \quad {\rm Re} = \frac{{I'}}{\eta }} \\ {{\rm Sc} = \frac{\eta }{{\varrho {\rm D}}}\quad {\rm Ha} = } & {\frac{{\left( {\frac{{\eta ^2 }}{{{\rm g}\varrho ^2 }}} \right)^{1/3} \left( {\frac{{{\rm k}_{11} {\rm c}_{\rm R} }}{{\rm D}}} \right)^{1/2} }}{{{\rm th}\left[ {\left( {\frac{{\eta ^2 }}{{{\rm g}\varrho ^2 }}} \right)^{1/3} \left( {\frac{{{\rm k}_{11} {\rm c}_{\rm R} }}{{\rm D}}} \right)^{1/2} } \right]}}} \\ \end{array} $$\end{document}When the absorption is purely physical the group Ha has the value of 1. The equation is checked with the available data in the literature and those from experiments by the authors.The “constant” c seems to depend on the relation:\documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ \frac{{{\rm diameter}\,{\rm of}\,{\rm packing}}}{{{\rm height}\,{\rm of}\,{\rm scrubber}}} $\end{document}; the function can be approximated by the formula:\documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$$ {\rm c} = 0.05\left( {\frac{{\rm d}}{{\rm h}}} \right)^{1/3} . $$\end{document}The equation derived resembles the non‐dimensionless equation ofSherwoodandHolloway3) (for physical absorp
