摘要:
AbstractOccupational therapists frequently work with clients who are challenged by chronic disabilities that may often lead to handicaps. Consequently, chronicity and possible resulting handicaps are matters of concern for occupational therapists in all domains, including: practice, research and education. In 1980 the World Health Organization put forth a classification scheme to capture the long‐term consequences of disease: the International Classification of Impairments, Disabilities, and Handicaps (ICIDH). Its use within occupational therapy was advocated. They showed that the constructs of this classification system mirrored those of occupational therapy's occupational performance model. More recently, a proposal for the revision of the ICIDH (ICIDH‐PR) has been advanced. This proposal is consistent with the enablement and occupational competence models. Within this proposed model, occupational therapy is concerned with enabling clients to interact optimally within their chosen environments. This paper presents a brief review of a selected portion of the international literature on the ICIDH and introduces the proposed revision of the ICIDH for occupational therapy. The structure of this proposed classification is compared with the occupational therapy models. The implications that the use of the ICIDH‐PR will have for occupational therapy are also addr

摘要:
AbstractThe present study focuses on the on‐going reorganisation of psychiatric care in a major county council in Sweden. The aim of this study is to describe the impact of these changes from the perspective of one group of occupational therapists. Data were collected by a mailed questionnaire. Results showed an acceptance of the current policies towards restructuring psychiatric care, especially on the focus on alternative living and work/occupational facilities. Strong criticism was raised concerning the lack of trans‐institutional facilities. Loneliness and isohtion were seen as a main problem of the patients. Strong doubts were raised concerning independent living as the best alternative for most of the patients. The new professional role in community psychiatric care has brought the occupational therapist closer to die individual patient. Feelings of shortcomings and frustration in this group of occupational therapists regarding the reorganisation of psychiatric care were linked to the insufficiency of community support facilities designed to meet these new challen

摘要:
AbstractThe importance of the inner world of the patients in occupational therapy has not been studied in recent occupational therapy literature. The activity process in this paper is seen as a complex mixture of internal and external transformations which occur as part of the patient's relationship with the therapist. Pertinent psychoanalytic theories are reviewed and their usefulness to occupational therapy is described. Specific sequences of therapy sessions in two case examples are presented to illustrate the dynamics of the relationship of patient, therapist and activity, and to start to identify inner transformations during activity participation. The authors consider basic research on the meaning of activity as a fundamental part of the profession.

摘要:
AbstractConcern about occupational therapy students' knowledge of and attitudes towards people with severe mental illness and their rehabilitation led to the development of a new course in the mental health curriculum. The course was designed to introduce the students to the philosophy, research and practices of psychiatric rehabilitation. The personal, instructional experience of using the training technology (learning and teaching modules) developed by the Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation, Boston University in a 7‐week fourth year course, over a period of 3 years, is described. As well, a selection of the written perspectives of the students on their exposure to the philosophy of psychiatric rehabilitation, the requisite skills of practitioners and the learning package materials (reference workbooks and audiovisual aids) is provided to illustrate the benefits of this very brief introduction to psychiatric rehabilitation in a university classroom settin

摘要:
AbstractThe professional obligations of an occupational therapy faculty include the need to provide students with means to develop a sound professional identity and facilitate a positive and coherent professional socialisation process. This article proposes that, through calculated construction of an introductory occupational therapy course, one can relate to these issues. It suggests basing the course content on Mosey's concept of ‘the configuration of occupational therapy’, in answer to possible problems in professional identity, and at the same time working to develop the basic professional socialisation dimensions — knowledge, skills and art of therapy. It uses experiential learning theory, both as an instrument for the examination of students learning styles and for choosing teaching me
