SummarySupernatant malate dehydrogenase (MDH) isozymes (as visualized by starch gel electrophoresis) are encoded by two distinct gene loci in both the largemouth and smallmouth bass. When an interspecific F1hybrid is formed between these two fish, a unique MDH isozyme is generated. The results of freeze‐thaw molecular hybridization (which is the first application of this technique to MDH) indicate that this unique isozyme in the F1hybrid is a heterodimer composed of one subunit of each parental type. The F1hybrids produced F2hybrids which in turn formed the F3hybrid population. The inheritance of alleles at theMDH‐Blocus is consistent with a single Mendelian autosomal locus. Furthermore, there is no evidence of linkage between the lactate dehydrogenase‐E locus and theMDH

SummaryFrom a comparative survey of reports on cattle Hb variants it is concluded that prior to the present communication the occurrence of at least seven different adult Hb molecules have been reported.In addition comes the finding of a new Hb variant called HbG which is reported in this study. This was found in three animals among 101 East African Zebu cattle. It migrated more slowly than any cattle Hb variant previously reported and made up 20% of total Hb.The gene frequencies of the East African Zebu population were:HbA= 0.52,HbB= 0.32,Hbc= 0.14 andHbG= 0.01.

SummaryUsing starch gel electrophoresis, polymorphism of phosphohexose isomerase (PHI) was found in haemolysed swine erythrocytes.Three different phenotypes A, AB and B were observed. They are determined by two autosomal codominant allelesAandB.Homozygous types have three fractions; a strong middle band flanked by two weaker ones. The heterozygous types have five fractions, three strong bands in the middle with weaker anodic and catodic bands.Segregation data in the family material support this hypothesis. The age does not influence the pattern of the PHI types.

SummarySerum amylase phenotypes were determined for 1227 animals from three Austrian cattle breeds, Tyrolean Grey, Carinthian Blondvieh and Waldviertler Blondvieh. The phenotypes were determined for 450 offspring from families where both sire and dam were typed. The distribution of the 450 progeny phenotypes in which 30 of the 36 possible mating combinations occur is compatible with the hypothesis of three autosomal co‐dominant alleles.All six possible phenotypes were found in all three breed groups.
