AbstractThe weaker spectral features in the Raman spectra of MN3(M = K, Rb, Cs) in the region 1240–1360 cm−1are reported. The present study indicates that the two‐phonon modes involving ν2can be analysed solely in terms of k = 0 selection rules whilst the two‐ and three‐phonon bands involving internal and external combination modes require a critical point analysis. There are several possible assignments of a multiphonon band of the latter type; its appearance apparently depends on proximity to an intense fundamental mode, from which it presumably steals

AbstractThe pure rotational Raman spectrum of acetylene has been recorded with argon laser excitation and a resolution of about 0.3 cm−1. For the first time ΔJ = 1 transitions in the excited II states are clearly resolved up toJ= 9. AbstractPolarized Raman spectra of single crystals of La2(SO4)3, 9H2O and La2(SO4)3, 9D2O have been recorded at room temperature and assignments to the zero wave vector modes proposed. AbstractPhosphate frequencies for eight nucleoside 3′,5′‐ and four nucleoside 2′, 3′‐cyclic monophosphates have been determined by Raman and infrared spectroscopy based on comparisons with modified cyclic nucleotides and model cyclic phosphates. To a first approximation the symmetric diester stretching frequency, νs(OPO), is determined by the OPO bond angle. AbstractThe absolute intensities of the 802 cm−1Raman line of liquid cyclohexane at 514.5 and 337.1 nm excitations were determined by applying the local field correction theory to corresponding absolute intensities of cyclohexane vapour. By using this Raman line as an external intensity standard, the absolute Raman intensities of the 992 cm−1line of benzene and the 666 and 762 cm−1lines of chloroform were measured in the liquid phase. AbstractThe theory of interference effects between preresonance scattering from an intense electronic transition and resonance scattering from a forbidden electronic transition is formulated. A simple closed formula for the cross‐section of a totaliy‐symmetrical fundamental line is derived for the case where the vibrational structure of both electronic transitions is smeared out.
