AbstractCompounds containing free amino, hydroxyl or carbonyl groups can be activated by reaction with polyphosphate ester. If the compounds contain a second functional group, polycondensations are possible; e.g. amino acids → polypeptides, carbohydrates → polysaccharides, nucleotides → polynucleotides. AbstractThe α‐addition of immonium ions and anions (OH−, SeH−, S2O32−, N3−NCO−NCS−, RCO2−, ROCO2−) to isonitriles, accompanied by secondary reactions provides a means for the one‐stage synthesis of organic nitrogen compounds starting with two to five different components. Thus, by the condensations of amines (ammonia, primary, and secondary aliphatic and aromatic amines, hydrazines) and aldehydes or ketones with isonitriles and acids, a number of α‐aminocarboxylic acid amides, thioamides, selenoamides, 1,5‐disubstituted retrazoles, hydantoin imides, thiohydantoin imides, α‐acylamino carboxylic acid amides, oligopeptide derivatives, β‐lactams, derivatives of penicillanic acid, urethanes, diacylimides, and various hydrazine derivatives, can be prepared. AbstractThe construction and operation of a pilot plant for the enrichment of heavy water by high pressure exchange between hydrogen and an aqueous catalyst suspension are described. A continous experiment carried out for a period of 86 days proved the technical feasibility of the process and the validity of the assumptions used in an earlier discussion of the economic aspects.

AbstractChemical reactions in the upper atmosphere may be investigated by sending rockets into the region of interest or by simulating conditions in the laboratory. Ultraviolet solar radiation dissociates and ionizes all types of particles present in the chemosphere. This results in recombination reactions of radicals, charge transfers, and chemical reactions of ions with neutral particles. In addition bimolecular reactions between neutral particles and reactions involving excited molecules take place.

AbstractUntil the present time, new color pigments have been developed by isotypic and homotypic mixed‐phase formation. This paper deals primarily with heterotypic mixed‐phase formation for the preparation of new colored and white pigments with the rutile structure. Dioxides and difluorides crystallizing in the rutile lattice‐form were chosen as host‐lattices for the mixed‐phase formation. Hosts of the general formula AB2can accommodate, as guests, in the form of solid solutions, oxides and/or fluorides with different structures. Characteristically, the mean statistical cation‐radius lies between 0.55 and 0.98 Å, with single radii between 0.46 and 0.98 Å.
