Common antigenic properties for p85 and p75 but a different antigenic character for p71 Aleutian disease virus (ADV) proteins were demonstrated by Western blot analysis with monoclonal antibodies. It was shown that four hybridomas (ADV-Hy 47, 66, 77 and 84) with specific reactivity for structural proteins p85 and p75 also recognized p25 but not the p71, nonstructural, protein. In turn, the monoclonal antibody ADV-Hy 2 recognized the p71 protein only. For further studies of their antigenic properties, the ADV proteins were subjected to enzymatic or chemical cleavage. The derived peptide fragments were analyzed by epitopic mapping. Depending on the cleavage reagent and monoclonal antibody applied, specific peptide maps were revealed. The maps of p85 and p75 were very similar, indicating that both proteins shared an extensive antigenic relationship. After cleavage with α-chymotrypsin and N-chlorosuccinimide and by using the ADV-Hy 84 monoclonal antibody, unique peptide fragments were identified with p85 which had no counterparts in p75 fragments

In extending findings on the influence of the mouse H-2D locus on the scrapie incubation period, we showed that with the intracerebral (i.e.) route of injection, SJL and NZW mice (s and z alleles, respectively) had shorter incubation periods than C57BL mice (b allele) at several concentrations of two scrapie strains, ME7 and 139A. The three mouse strains have the same Sine genotype, s7s7. Incubation period data among the three mouse strains after intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection revealed a different rank order of incubation periods from that seen after i.e. injection. End-point titers in the three mouse strains were similar after i.e. injection, but both scrapie strains yielded very low titers in NZW mice after i.p. injection. There were marked differences between 139A and ME7 incubation periods after both i.e. and i.p. injections in the three mouse genotypes, providing an additional parameter that distinguishes these two scrapie strains.

Nutrient-depleted conditions, which induced an inhibited state in uninfected cell monolayers, rendered the cells nonpermissive for vaccinia virus, while not affecting their ability to support propagation of an unrelated mengovirus. When the inhibited state was reversed, the ability to propagate vaccinia virus was restored. The inhibited cells retained the ability to support some early-induced events (thymidine kinase synthesis and its arrest, which are DNA synthesis-independent functions in a mouse cell host), but lost the ability to support some others (sensitization of input viral DNA to DNase, induction of DNA polymerase synthesis, and virus-induced CPE). The data are consistent with involvement of a host factor(s) in induction of early vaccinia virus-induced events in infected cells.

摘要:
A new type of human papillomavirus (HPV), HPV-38b, was isolated from patients with epidermodysplasia verruciformis and was molecularly cloned. This HPV was shown by hybridization experiments to have almost no sequence homology with other types of reported HPVs, but did show homology with HPV-38, which was recently isolated from a melanoma. A physical map and a rough genetic map of the organization of this HPV are presented.

The molecular weights of canine adenovirus type 1 (canAV-1, strain Utrecht) and type 2 (canAV-2, strain Toronto A26/61) DNAs were determined by contour length measurements and restriction endonuclease analysis. In each case, an average molecular weight value of 20 (±0.5) × 106 daltons was obtained with both methods. Similar in size, the canAV-1 and canAV-2 DNA molecules were, however, cleaved at very distinct positions by a variety of restriction endonucleases. 摘要:
The large dsDNA algal virus, PBCV-1, replicates in UV-irradiated Chlorella, albeit more slowly and with a smaller burst size than in untreated Chlorella. Irradiated cells are unable to form colonies, and endogenous RNA and DNA synthesis are reduced to background levels. Thus a fully function host nucleus is not required for PBCV-1 replication.
