摘要:
The use of glutaraldehyde (GA)-treated chicken red blood cells (RBC) for purification of Sendai virions by adsorption and elution was found to be advantageous over the use of untreated RBC. Biologic and enzymatic activities and structural components of the purified virions were compared with those of the original virions. The purified virions lost glucosamine-labeled non-proteinous materials. These materials did not relate to the expression of infectivity or cell fusion activity of Sendai virus. No evidence of disruption of Sendai virions during interaction with GA-RBC was observed. The use of GA-RBC provides a new method to prepare an unadsorbed virus fraction with a minimum contamination of hemagglutinins. The unadsorbed fraction consisted of Sendai virions with weak hemagglutinating activity and smaller amounts of the gpl(HN) polypeptide and with negligible hemolytic and cell fusion activities. The origin of these particles is discussed.

摘要:
The polypeptides synthesized in HEp-2 cells infected with 7 type 1 and 8 type 2 strains of herpes simplex virus were examined by PAGE. The polypeptides produced were consistent for each type and clearly different from those produced by infection with the other type.

摘要:
Two new virus isolates, one from a California sea lion (Zalophus californianus californianus) and the other from a northern fur seal (Callorhinus ursinus) were partially characterized. Their physicochemical characteristics were similar to those of vesicular exanthema of swine virus (VESV) and San Miguel sea lion virus (SMSV). The virion morphology was in both instances typically calicivirus. On the basis of this and the serum cross-neutralization testing, these isolates were classed as two new types of SMSV and were designated serotypes SMSV-4 and SMSV-5.

摘要:
In cowpea leaves singly or doubly infected with cowpea chlorotic mottle virus (CCMV) and/or southern bean mosaic virus (SBMV), treatment with 2-thiouracil increased the accumulation of CCMV particles and strongly decreased the accumulation of SBMV particles. Thiouracil prevented the usual inhibition of synthesis of CCMV particles at about 6 days after inoculation, and 2–3 times as many CCMV particles accumulated as in water-treated plants. A single treatment of thiouracil 48 h before, at the time of, or 24 h after inoculation caused at least 90% decrease in the amount of SBMV particles extracted from inoculated leaves for at least 15 days. When virus particles were extracted from plants treated with thiouracil, the specific infectivity of CCMV was increased 2.3 times and SBMV was decreased 0.46 times as compared to virus from control plant

摘要:
DNA-binding proteins from uninfected or polyoma virus-infected mouse cells (3T6) were isolated and compared by DNA-cellulose chromatography and SDS-PAGE. During the early phase of infection, few but significant and reproducible differences were observed. In the 0.4 m NaCl eluate, four major new polypeptides were detected in infected cells, with approximate molecular weights of 160 K, 130 K, 86 K and 81 K, the last two being compatible with previous estimates for polyoma T antigen molecular weight.

摘要:
A comparative analysis was performed on two substrains, c-1 and c-3, derived from the Nakayama-NIH strain of Japanese encephalitis virus. The infectivity of the two substrains was inactivated at similar rates by treatment with Tween 80 and Tween 20 but not by treatment with Tween 60. However, hemagglutinating activity as measured at pH 6.8 of the c-3 substrain treated with Tween 80 was more labile than that of the c-1 substrain treated with Tween 80. Also, the immunogenicity (neutralizing and hemagglutination-inhibiting antibodies) was different between the two substrains in sensitivity to low pH (6.8) and to Tween 80. With the c-1 substrain a combination of these treatments reduced the immunogenicity, but each treatment applied singly did not materially reduce it. The immunogenicity of the c-3 substrain was reduced by single as well as combined applications of the two treatments. Evidence was obtained which suggested that the part of the antigen sensitive to these treatments was strain-specific, whereas the resistant antigen was common among the Japanese encephalitis – St. Louis encephalitis complex member

摘要:
Particles from plants mixedly infected with two tobamoviruses, whose particles differ in density, were all of a single, intermediate density, suggesting that they contain both coat proteins and that the proteins occur in the same proportion in all particles. Plants inoculated with the genome-containing particles of one of the tobamoviruses together with the noninfective, short, coat protein messenger-containing particles of the other yielded only particles with the density of the first; there was no evidence of complementation.
