摘要:
In this article we discuss an alternative approach, using a knowledge-based expert system, to the design of offshore structures. The implemented expert system can assist engineers in the preliminary design of shallow-water offshore jacket structures. The system is capable of configuring and automatically generating the basic structural model of a fixed template-type steel jacket structure for analysis and design. In addition, the system allows the user to alter any of the inferred recommendations. The system is called IPDOJS (Interactive Preliminary Design of Offshore Jacket Structures).

摘要:
During recent years the electronics manufacturing industry has had to cope with very rapid developments in semiconductor technology, while also having to adapt to the changes in manufacturing philosophy which are being applied to most industry sectors. During this period machine vision has become an integral part of the automation being used to increase the efficiency or quality of the printed circuit board (PCB) fabrication and assembly processes which are required for this new miniature technology. This article outlines developments within the electronics manufacturing industry, examines the role of machine vision and the requirements for inspection during PCB assembly. The experiences of three major manufacturers are presented. The article concludes the need for the structured integration of vision machines within manufacturing systems to increase both flexibility and reliability.

摘要:
The ability to link automated tools for electronic circuit production is an important area in computer-aided engineering research. In this article the need to link design and test generation techniques, to cater for the different levels of design skill likely to be available, is emphasised. The approach to electronic design automation and testing through the Exadat system, developed at Exeter University, is outlined. The operation of the current system is described and example results from student projects are presented. Finally, further proposed developments to the system are indicated.

摘要:
An adaptive and hierarchical steady-state finite-difference technique is employed here in a fast-action, thermal-analysis template to model electronic and electrical packages under different thermal loadings (i.e. temperature differences leading to high stresses). These resultant temperature, stress and strain distributions over such packages are presented in 3-D colour isometric projections. The high temperature and high thermal stress spots thus identified indicate where further design attention should be devoted, in order that longer-life, more efficient packages may be developed.
