摘要:
This article presents microprocessor measurement techniques for a multi‐cameera video system mounted in a van type vehicle that will observe a 12‐foot lane of road surface. Because of the high speed processing requirement of the vision system, several 68020 microprocessors are employed to handle data and detect various cracking patterns while the vehicle is in motion at highway speeds. As the image processing system collects the data, a host microprocessor computes an instantaneous and cumulative pavement score that will be used by the operator and the Pavement Management System, PMS, for further analysis and maintence considerations. The article presents an overview of the microprocessor driven PMS using high speed hardware circuitry for real‐time processing. Development of the system is underway by the Earth Technology Corporation and Louisiana Tech Unive

摘要:
A major objective of computer support is to increase human problem‐solving capability, and especially human creativity: creativity in all aspects of working on complex problems. To achieve this high level of synergy of man and machine requires a theory which can be used to design appropriate computer systems support. The theory presented here describes the process of working on a problem in terms of both human and computer operators changing both human and computer images of the problem. Operators are defined operationally as processes. Each process is constructed out of modules, which are executable sets of instructions for man and/or machine. A step is application of a module together with specification of input and output data; a process is a sequence of steps. In a creativity‐support system (CSS), a variety of types of modules can be provided, which allow construction of an even richer variety of operators which can support a wide range of styles of man and machine interaction. Examples are given of modules for search and for evaluation, to illustrate this variety of styles. A general‐purpose microcomputer software system (AE‐1) is described which serves as a “breadboard” for developing and using creativity‐s

摘要:
A microcomputer‐aided system has been developed for interactive design and drafting of connections in steel buildings made of standard. rolled‐I sections, called STEELCON. The basis of design is AISC specification. In addition to interactive design, STEELCON can displaylplot any isometric view of the connection plus three orthographic views, i.e., front, side, and top face views. The orthographic views show all the necessary details for fabrication and construction of the connections. Interactive design and drafting of two different moment resisting connections are presented. They are the shop welded and field bolted framed flange plate connection and the shop and field welded flange plate connect

摘要:
Astratagem is given to reduce a real symmetric matrix A of order n into a tridiagonal form by the Givens method on a concurrent machine where N processors are used. Although the basic algorithm is inherently serial, the concurrency can still be exploited by a special decomposition scheme: scattered column decomposition. The steps in the serial and the parallel algorithms are identified, and the execution times evaluated. Expressions for efficiency and speedup are given. The results show that the stratagem has high efficiency provided that s, the number of columns assigned to a processor, is large enough and the ratio of the time required to transmit one number between processors to the time required to carry out a floating point arithmetic operation is small enough.

摘要:
Knowledge‐based systems tools are increasingly available on microcomputer systems. The range and characteristics of some of these tools are briefly reviewed including PROLOG and LISP systems and Expert System Shells for both text‐and rule‐based approaches. While the tools available up to about 1984 were reasonably adequate for self and academic teaching purposes and for prototyping systems, production quality and capability tools have subsequently become widely available. Different paradigms for problem reduction and analysis are covered, followed by the matching of problem type, approach, and tool to both the learning phase and the production process. There is a bias towards the construction, design, and transport engineering areas of civil engine

摘要:
Evaluation of the performance of a multilayer aquifer system in a regional study is a problem frequently encountered in ground water studies. In this study a finite element Galerkin formulation is presented for the solution of steady state ground water seepage problem in a multilayer aquifer system for microcomputer environments. The computer code which is originally developed on CDC‐CYBER‐855 system is then adopted to an IBMPC system with 256 K core memory capacity using Microsoft version 3.2 FORTRAN Compiler (MS‐FORTRAN Compiler) which runs under version 1.25 of the Microsoft Disk Operating System (MS‐DOS). For fast numeric processing a 8087 processing environment is suggested but such a processor is not necessary for proper execution. In order to verify the validity of the numerical procedure proposed, several numerical experiments are performed and the results obtained are compared with the analytical solutions. The computer code generated is identified as MSGF1 (Multilayer‐Steady‐Groundwater‐Flow) model and it is supported and maintained

摘要:
A simple method to generate element matrices for various sets of shape functions is presented. A standard set of shape functions is first chosen to establish standard element matrices and the actual shape functions are related to the standard ones through function evaluations. Then, the actual element matrices are obtained by transforming the standard element matrices. The computation requires simple matrix multiplications and shape function evaluation only. The method is very suitable for microcomputers that it drastically reduces the core requirement and very large element library can be included without difficulty. The element matrices are also formulated readily in a way to explore the advantage of parallel computation.
