摘要:

The proposed analytical technique is another possibility for determining the inhibition of the biochemical decomposition of organic substances in surface waters by toxicants. The advantages and disadvantages of respective techniques having been published so far in literature and of the new method proposed are discussed. This method is based on the BOD analysis according to Vihl and peptone is used as the check substrate. Save exceptional cases with special statements of problems, the undiluted river water is tested. Examples of results on the degree of the occurrence of toxic inhibition in river waters are presented in tables.

AbstractDue to its oxidation‐reduction potential, oxygen occurs in the TTC test for the determination of the dehydrogenase activity as a competitive hydrogen acceptor. At different oxygen concentrations in the solution to be tested and also at varying rates of oxygen depletion, e.g. in activated sludge samples, thus the formazan formation from TTC shows differences. Under similar anaerobic conditions, the test results of the dehydrogenase activity are higher in most cases and show a smaller range of variation than under aerobic conditions. So far, the MPN technique has been the method chosen for detecting pathogenic bacteria in waters, since it allows us to use larger volumes. In the evaluation, however, comparatively frequently (10 … 15%) nontypical codes occur. The validity of the Poisson model is confirmed for pure cultures by extensive laboratory experiments with pure cultures and controlled mixed cultures. In mixed cultures, however, a comparatively large number of atypical codes occur, since obviously a single organism is not sufficient for the formation of a growth‐cover on the test tube, so that the true number of germs may be considerably underestimated. From mineral waters of the CSSR 263 strains of manganese bacteria were isolated, microscopically investigated and cultivated in 45 biochemical tests. Strains with flagella were integrated in the genus ofPseudomonas, strains with pleomorphism in the species ofArthrobacter siderocapsulatusDubnina.Pseudomonas manganooxidansSchweinfurth is characterized by mere manganese oxidation. Strains oxidizing iron and manganese in the same way constitute the new speciesPs. ferromanganooxidansspec. nov. Strains with intensive iron oxidation form the speciesPs. ferrooxidansspec. nov. A key for determination and detailed tables of biochemical identification are presented.

AbstractThe mineral content was investigated in the below‐ground biomass, the above‐ground biomass and the litter of the macrophytes in five wetlands in the valley of the river Jehlum. In different seasons, the concentrations of calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, phosphorus and nitrogen in the dry matter were determined. Sodium, phosphorus, potassium and calcium showed decreasing concentraions from spring to autumn. The sodium and magnesium concentrations showed an irregular trend. As a whole, the incorporated mass of substances per unit of area increases, however, in the course of the period of vegatation for the below‐ground biomass as well as the above‐ground biomass. For the four lakes of the lower Feldberg lake district as well as for the Krüselin. situated on the periphery of the lake district, summer depth profiles of the oxygen concentration together with the metalimnion, transparency, water temperature and the depth limit of the occurrence of hydrogen sulphide are represented for the period from 1924 or 1962 to 1980. The profiles very clearly demonstrate the progressive eutrophication of these lakes, but also the beginning improvement of the quality of their water.
