摘要:
It is common to separate the sediment transport of rivers into bed load, wash load and suspended load. The problem is that there are no unique criteria for distinguishing between the three types of loads. Using the concept of coherent structures for turbulent flow, it is shown here that only the shear events (burst phenomena) are able to transport the larger grain sizezs of the sediment. Together with Shen's distinction between material found on the bed and fractions not found on the bed, one obtains a consistent set of criteria for defining the three types of loads.

摘要:
Laboratory experiments lead to a way of modifying two existing transport rate formulae so that transport rates and size distributions of transported material can be predicted knowing the hydraulic conditions and the bed-material grain size distribution. The Ackers and White and the Paintal transport formulae are modified accordingly and used successfully on laboratory data. Difficulties in defining bed-material distributions and the possibility of overpassing in sand/gravel systems are reflected in the results obtained using data from four rivers.

Experimental researeli on flow over permeable surfaces is reported, in which flow over a permeable, rough surface is compared with flow over non-permeable, rough and smooth surfaces. The experiments were conducted in a wind tunnel using two permeable surfaces (Fig. 4) of relative thicknesses D/de= 2,73 and 9,67.
