摘要:
A simple model is derived to explain the form ofthe relationship between the normalized entrainment rate of quiescent fluid into a turbulent mixed layer and the bulk Richardson number. The model is based on a parameterization ofthe turbulent kinetic energy budget and includes the effect of molecular diffusivity through the gravity work term. Results show good agreement with available data.

Results are presented from a series of laboratory experiments in which the intrusion and arrest of a salt wedge in a smooth circular pipe have been investigated over a range of densimetric Reynolds (ReΔ) and Froude (FΔ) numbers. Horizontal and inclined pipes have been considered, in order to model intrusion in the outlet ports and tunnels of long sea outfalls. An empirical estimator expression has been derived to represent the functional dependence of wedge length upon densimetric Reynolds and Froude numbers respectively, and pipe slope. The agreement between the predicted wedge lengths and the measured values is generally good for a wide parameter range (ReΔ: 7,300-13,200;FΔ: 0.25-0.68) typical of prototype operation. Comparisons between the pipe data and measurements of salt wedges in open channels reveal the pitfalls of applying two dimensional results to a three dimensional configuration.

摘要:
This paper presents the results of analytical and experimental investigation on subcritical flow in sudden expansion in rectangular rigid-bed channels with expansion ratios of 1.5 to 3.0. In addition, data collected by other investigators are also used. Theoretically the shape of separating stream line is predicted on the assumption that the sum of friction and expansion losses in expansion is minimum. Using the data mentioned above, velocity distribution in the vertical, distribution of mean velocity across the width, distribution of shear on the bed, lengths of the standing eddy, shape of separating streamline, and variation of energy loss coefficient have been studied.

摘要:
The use of a new apparatus measuring the instantaneous erosive intensity of a flow, gives, on a small cavitation canal, the erosion variations versus temperature, pressure, flow and cavitation coefficient. Every time exists one maximum of the erosion. Similar results appear during trials on an hydraulic turbine (2000 kW). Other experiments are in progress.
