摘要:
The purpose of this short article is to suggest that one aspect of the way in which we teach electronics can cause a great deal of confusion.

摘要:
The aim of this article is to illustrate how data logging can be used to expound the topic of ‘uncertainties’in physics. This is done with the help of one specific mechanics experiment that forms an integral part of the Revised Nuffield Advanced Physics course.

摘要:
A technical description of two shaft encoder systems is given. Whilst being useful in their own right as notes on instrumentation the main purpose is as applications of some common electronics principles. The obvious version of the encoder, with straight binary coding, is found to work poorly and a Graycoded version is introduced to get over this difficulty.

摘要:
Many teachers use the systems approach to introduce electronics to pupils. Few teachers go beyond initial problem-solving with this approach. The systems approach has potential for the whole of electronics teaching. One of the main purposes of this article is to stress just how valuable this approach can be, particularly to project work.1

摘要:
During surgical operations, the well being of the patient is the responsibility of the anaesthetist, while the surgeon performs the actual operation. The anaesthetist therefore monitors the patient's vital signs during the operation and hence deduces his state at any particular instant. The anaesthetist must also note these vital signs to include in a report on the operation used in post-operative care, and also possibly in court in case of mishap.

摘要:
The aim of this project was to produce a system which can use the signal from the level sensor in the car's fuel tank and display, in gallons on two seven-segment displays, the amount of fuel in the tank. The digital display is intended to be easier to read than the analogue gauges usually found in cars and which are generally not calibrated.

摘要:
The idea of extracting power from the wind is almost as old as civilisation itself, with records of existing windmills back as far as the 17th century BC, the time of the Babylonian emperor Hammurabi. Although mideastern countries possessed such knowledge, windmills were not introduced into Europe until the crusaders brought them back in the 13th century AD, but by the early 19th century there were 10000 windmills in operation in England alone.

摘要:
Printed circuit boards (PCBs) are probably the most common method of constructing electronic circuits, being widely used in most electrical items, and now a common sight in schools and colleges. However, in industry, all the manufacturing processes are nearly always automated, yet schools rarely have similar facilities. One of these processes, the drilling of the holes in the PCB, is probably the most time-consuming and repetitive of these tasks—one which could easily be automated.

摘要:
Experience of moderating project work mainly in electronics, and also experience in providing INSET courses to CDT and Science Teachers in the area of project work, suggests that some teachers might find it helpful to have some comments about project work, its format and what is reasonable to expect.
