摘要:
The RIKEN Accelerator Research Facility (RARF) is the first comprehensive Japanese research center for heavy-ion science, and is open to users all over the world. The facility houses an accelerator complex with a K540 MeV ring cyclotron (completed in 1986) with two different injectors, a frequency-variable heavy-ion linac (completed in 1981) and a K70 MeV AVF cyclotron (completed in 1989).

摘要:
It is well known that a finite neutrino mass would provide a backing not only for modern theories of particle physics beyond the standard model, but, in a literal sense, for the whole universe, also. Whereas particle physicists would accept more or less any positive result as a gauge of their theories, the astrophysicists calculate that a mass of the order of 10 eVlc2 (averaged over the three flavors) of the many relic neutrinos from the big bang would mark the turning point from an open to a closed universe. No wonder, therefore, that physicists set out to hunt the neutrino mass by any possible means.

摘要:
Collisions, appropriately interpreted, are a primary source of insights into and information regarding nuclear systems and their characteristic modes of motion. In this paper, I shall sketch a statistical approach which provides a framework for the analysis of experimental data and relates the data to fundamental nuclear properties. This theory is very general but so far has been applied mainly to neutron and proton collisions with nuclei from relatively low nucleon energies to several hundred MeV and for target nuclei covering a wide range in mass number and charge.

摘要:
From the 31st of October to the 3rd of November, 1994, the city of Niigata on the shore of the sea of Japan hosted the International Symposium on the Physics of Unstable Nuclei. More than 190 physicists responded to the invitation of the chairman of ISPUN, Professor K. Ikeda, and of the conference secretary, Dr. Y. Suzuki, to come and discuss the results on the physics of nuclei far from stability presented by more than fifty speakers. This number, as well as the number of contributions (more than 80) and posters (more than 50), gives a measure of the interest raised in Japan and abroad by this branch of nuclear structure.
