摘要:
SUMMARYCytophotometric methods have been used to demonstrate a fall in the acetic‐alcohol fixable RNA of the cytoplasm of the meiocytes ofCosmos bipinnatusduring the meiotic prophase. The decline occurs between zygotene and pachytene, and is probably attributable to a reduction in the ribosome population comparable with that already known to occur inLiliumandTrillium. Cytoplasmic acid phosphatase activity, estimated by cytochemical methods using naphthyl phosphates as substrates, rises from a low value in the preleptotene period to a maximum in zygotene and then subsequently declines. The possibility is suggested that the change in naphthyl cytochemically detectable acid phosphatase may be connected with the “autodigestive” processes concerned in ribosome elimin

摘要:
SUMMARY14CO2was supplied to single leaves at various heights along the axis of floweringFritillaria imperialisplants. The movement of the14C‐labelled assimilates from the lower leaves was mainly towards the bulb, and from the higher ones mainly towards the flower‐bearing shoot part. The nectar always contained equal am ountsof glucose and fructose, of which the14C‐labelled forms were predominantly collected from the nectaries of the flower that was on the same orthostichy as the14CO2‐treated leaf. It is concluded that the five orthostichies which can be distinguished morphologically reflect five largely, but not completely, separated pathways of translocation of assimilates in the shoot of this plant

摘要:
SUMMARYApplication of a simple and rapid method for separation of cutin acids, by gas liquid chromatography, if carried out on the methyl esters of their trimethylsilyl derivatives has been found possible without previous, more complicated, separation by thin layer chromatography. For comparative research one chromatogram renders sufficient information. The resemblance between the cutin acids from smooth and from russeted apple skin of “Golden Delicious” has been established again. However, some interesting differences occur between the cutin acid pattern of smooth tissue and tissue scarred by mechanical inj

摘要:
SUMMARYRapid in vitro polymerization of the cutin acids of “Golden Delicious” apple skin is possible at a temperature of 100 °. The resulting polymers can be hydrolyzed so that the original constituents are obtained again. Not all the acids participate in the polymerization in the same way: after two days the concentration of monobasic acids in the polymer was low compared with the concentration of the hydroxy fatty acids. Pigmented material from the cuticle layers influences the elasticity of the polymer but has little influence on the polymer‐air surface str

摘要:
SUMMARYA flower ofSpirodela polyrhizaof the clone used in the experiments arises in the left reproductive pocket of a frond at the proximal part of the meristematic area outside the part which gives rise to daughter fronds. If the medium is unfavourable for vegetative multiplication of fronds, flowers can be produced by not completely exhausted older fronds and their still attached daughter fronds.Sometimes the flowers or inflorescences produce 1 to 5 roots.

摘要:
SUMMARYAccumulated phytochemical data partially compiled by Kubitzki in 1969, and evidence from various other sources point to a fundamental heterogeneity of the Flowering Plants, which is interpreted by the present author as an unmistakable indication of a multiple descent of the Angiosperms. The consequences of this viewpoint for taxonomic classifications and for phylogenetic speculations must be faced. In view of the possible misunderstanding of some pointers, and in order to avoid erroneous interpretations of the accumulated evidence, a survey of the relevant data appears to be indicated. Some tentative proposals concerning a future classification of the Angiosperms will be made in the second part of this paper.

摘要:
SUMMARYThe elution pattern of IAA‐oxidase, peroxidase and polyphenoloxidase after filtration of crude pea root extract through Sephadex G 100 columns is affected by the pretreatment of the extract and also by the effluent. The changes are the same for all three enzymes. The IAA‐oxidase activity and the polyphenoloxidase activity are strongly inhibited by DIECA, but the peroxidase activity is unaffected by
