Highly selective microcavities are formed in crosslinked polymers by polymerizing around a molecule that acts as a template and subsequently removing this template. The function of the binding sites within the cavities is discussed more in detail.

Inclusion selectivity of [onium•xG]•[Cd3(CN)7] (onium = NMe4+or SMe3+) clathrates were investigated for C6H6(B), PhMe (T), ortho (O), meta (M) and para (P) isomers of C6H4Me2(X) and PhEt (E) as G upon the enclathration-crystallisation processes of the respective mixed guest clathrates from the binary, ternary, quaternary and quinary mixtures of B, T, X and E. The order of preference in the NMe4+-host is T>B>P≫M>O and E>P≫M>O; in the SMe3+- host P>T>B≫M>O and P>E≫M>O.

The single crystal structures of [Cd(py)2{Ag(CN)2}2]• C6H6and [Cd{Ag(CN)2}3]• G [G = K(15-crown-5)2• 2C6H6or Rb(15-crown-5)2• 2PhMe] determined in this work demonstrate the novel supramolecular features of not only the Ag(CN)2-bridged host structures but also mode of the guest accommodation.

The optical resolution of mandelic acid with cinchonine in water happens by consecutive formation of two different hydrated 1:x double salts, the two salts have different enantiomeric purity, they bound the water with different strength, but their solvent contents are the same.

The role of the crystallization temperature was investigated during the optical resolutions of some pipecolic acid xylides by 2R,3R-tartaric acid and O,O-dibenzoyl-2R,3R-tartaric acid. In 4 cases from 5 the temperature optimum of the crystallization was found between 45-50 °C, which is much higher than the usual crystallization temperature. A few trial resolutions may be enough to determine the temperature optimum of the crystallization graphically.

In this paper we demonstrate the use of chiral drugs and intermediates as resolving agents on 13 examples from our practice. In 11 cases of 13, the configuration of the enantiomers in the precipitated salt is opposite, which support the assumption that the formation of a “quasi racemate” type diastereoisomeric salt may be preffered, when the racemate and the resolving agent are structurally similar or at least there is no significant difference between their molecular weight.

An interesting behavior of gaseous capture of materials by solid surfactant matrices was examined in comparison with behaviors of other substances (other matrices) which possess long alkyl chain and supposedly similar crystal structure to the surfactant. Through this study it was revealed that the behavior of gaseous capture of materials was characteristic to the surfactant species. Of all surfactants cationic species was conspicuous followed by nonionics, while in anionics the behavior was very poor. Among cationics quaternary and tertiary species especially superior to any other class. For these cationic surfactant species the powder X-ray diffraction measurement disclosed that the gaseous capture of materials remarkably modified matrix surfactant crystal lattices, causing the surfactant molecular complex formation which had already been established by authors.
