摘要:
Triglyceride/aqueous ethanol/1-butanol systems were studied by rheology, ultracentrifugation, conductivity, refractive index and density determinations to support the concept that 1-butanol forms triglyceride/aqueous ethanol detergentless microeoiulsions. In addition to the triglyceride microemulsions, a related model system of hexadecane, 1-butanol and 95% ethanol was studied. On the basis of conductivity, rheology, ultracentrifugation data and visual examination, it was found that certain compositions were oil-continuous microemulsions even though they were detergentless. There is evidence that 1-butanol in combination with ethanol associates and interacts with water to form systems exhibiting microemulsion features. Preliminary data also indicate metastable states in the region of the plait point and support the microemulsion model of an alternative microstructure in which oil- rich and water-rich domains are randomly interspersed at equilibrium.

摘要:
A study of the precipitation of silver chloride in a micro-emulsion medium is presented. Measurements of turbidity, X-ray diffraction and small angle scattering show, the rapid formation of small crystals, about 60 °A in diameter wliich show no further growth and aggregate only slowly ; the stabilization of these solid particle suspensions, of steric or electrostatic origin, is increased by six orders of magnitude in comparison with aqueous colloidal solutions

摘要:
In several industries, suspensions or/and emulsions need to be processed at various stages. Physical processes such as aggregation/deaggregation or emulsification/deemulsification are carried out, optimised or scaled up or down. Engineering science is far from being perfected. However, a great deal of scientific information is available, often published in context of Stability or Rheology. In this review, such information is gathered and put in the perspective of processing. The fundamentals of processing are thus discussed emphasizing the importance of colloidal forces and hydrodynamics. Methods to manipulate the processes by systematic use of hydrodynamics, chemicals and proper time sequence have also been suggested.
