摘要:
The polyvinyl chloride (PVC) industry plays an important role in the total plastics industry of today. In most plastics producing countries, PVC is the leading plastic material; in others, for instance the United States and Japan, it is second only to polyethylene. The greater part of PVC is used as soft and plasticized PVC, and PVC applications consume approximately 80% of the total production of plasticizers.

摘要:
The mechanical properties of injection moldable thermoplastics have traditionally been measured parallel to the direction of material flow. This practice, which is readily accomplished by evaluating end gated injection molded test specimens, yields somewhat optimistic values in unreinforced thermoplastics through molecular orientation. In thermoplastics incorporating fiberous reinforcements, the orientation of those reinforcements greatly accentuates property improvement in the flow direction. Unfortunately, there is a corresponding decrease in mechanical properties as measured perpendicular to the direction of orientation.

摘要:
Reinforced polymeric materials have been growing in importance, especially in replacing metals and other traditional materials in structural applications. Most of these materials are either glass or carbon fiber composites. Particulate fillers, although they have not been used much for strengthening purposes, are extremely useful for electrical and thermal conductivity applications, especially with metals as fillers. Applications of these metal-filled plastics, their fabrication techniques, the role of the fillers in reinforcement, their compatability with the matrix phase, and the historical background of the development of plastic composites have been reviewed in Part 1 recently [1]. In this part of the review, the thermal properties of the metal-filled particulate composites are discussed. Before going into details of the properties, it is important to discuss the role of filler-plastic adhesion, which practically controls all the physicomechanical properties of the final composite.

When a sheet molding compound (SMC) molder is charged with the task of producing a low profiled, Class A automotive part, he is faced with a multitude of effects that he can produce. Thus, many compounders will produce parts striving for the absence of long-term and short-term waviness, while others will aspire to increasing the gloss level and still others will balance the two concepts in varying proportions. The only common base that can be established among all the definitions of low profile is the goal of equaling the surface of the most perfectly formed metal parts.

Within the automotive industry, product changes from year to year are common. Generally, these changes result in improvements in styling, packaging, or the design of individual components. Nevertheless, the basic structural designs of an automobile body or a truck cab have remained essentially the same for the past decade. Recently, however, the rising cost of fuel has given the industry the impetus to search for new, innovative approaches to structural design. This has led to a large interest in the use of alternate materials, in particular reinforced plastics (RP).
