摘要:
Estimates of variance from samples depend strongly on extreme values. Incomplete variance functions may be used to explain the unreliability of variance estimates when the distribution is long-tailed.

摘要:
This article presents results concerning the significance of sample leads and illustrates their uses. They enable the analysis of one party over another in political polls, one product over another in market research surveys, market share in industrial studies, etc. They enable the calculation of confidence intervals and required sample size, testing of hypotheses, etc. Sampling from infinite and finite populations with overlapping classifications, stratified sampling, optimum allocation to strata, etc., are considered. Derivation of the results is given in a set of Appendices. Some of these are rather complicated, but their uses are straightforward.

摘要:
A basic assumption of many statistical tests is that the samples are drawn from normal populations. However, in practice the data are often subject to rounding. Here we consider the effect of rounded normal data on the significance level of four test statistics. Guidance is given on what is an appropriate degree of precision when using these tests on normal rounded data. The results indicate that less precision is required of the recorded data than that which is usually given.

摘要:
In this paper, we show a maximum likelihood estimation procedure in the Box–Cox model when a lagged dependent variable is included among explanatory variables and the first observation of the dependent variable is random. It is shown in a numerical example that a test of a coefficientof the lagged dependent variable is sensitive to whether the first observation of the dependentvariable is random or not.

摘要:
A rectification strategy is considered for a process which is subject to a random shift into a persistent defective state. The expected costs associated with plans other than the basic retrospective unit by unit procedure are considered and a simple criterion is derived to identify that with approximate minimum expected cost. The validity of the application is discussed and an example is given to illustrate the inductive nature and simplicity of the technique.

摘要:
The maximum likelihood (ML) estimation of the location and scale parameters of an exponential distribution based on singly and doubly censored samples is given. When the sample is multiply censored (some middle observations being censored), however, the ML method does not admit explicit solutions. In this case we present a simple approximation to the likelihood equation and derive explicit estimators which are linear functions of order statistics. Finally, we present some examples to illustrate this method of estimation.

摘要:
A solution is suggested for the Behrens-Fisher problem of testing the equality of the means from two normal populations where variances are unknown and not assumed equal, by considering an adaption of the generalized likelihood ratio test. The test developed and called the adjusted likelihood ratio test has size close to the nominal significance level and compares favourably with regard to size and power to the Welch-Aspin test. An asymptotic result shows the connection between the generalized likelihood ratio test and the most commonly used test statistic for the Behrens-Fisher problem.

摘要:
This paper presents a modified multinomial model for analyzing behaviour among wildlife populations. It assumes that the covariance matrix of the observed proportions is a multiple of the covariance matrix under simple random sampling. The model also allows a measure of dependency among the clusters within subpopulations, a type of dependency that assumes the relationships among units are the same for any two units. In addition, this paper illustrates the fact that the incorrect application of the Pearson chi-square statistic based on simple random sampling can produce misleading results when frequencies are obtained from a non-multinomial sampling scheme. Data obtained from a study of wild turkeys are analyzed using the proposed multinomial model.
