摘要:
In this Special Issue, working values are reported for 383 international geostandards along with sample description. All this information is available in the form of databases. The possibility of easily accessing data on geostandards from a microcomputer in the laboratory itself is an efficient means for handling quality control/ quality assurance problems.

摘要:
Trace element concentrations in BIR‐1 basalt have been determined by isotope dilution‐spark source mass spectrometry, high performance liquid chromatography and laser ionization mass spectrometry. Of particular interest are the low abundance elements Nb, Ta, Zr, Hf, Th, U, Rb, Cs for which published data vary extremely. Our analyses of most trace elements in four different batches of BIR‐1, however, agree within 10% indicating that these large differences cannot be caused by heterogeneities of the powders but may be attributed to analytical problems. Based on own and recently published data, an attempt is made to assign “preferred values” for BIR‐1 which are at variance with several published consensus or working values by as much as a fa

摘要:
The concentrations of 27 trace elements in the basalt BIR‐1, as well as in other mafic rock reference materials, have been determined by ICP‐MS, using pure elemental solutions for external calibration and standard additions. Concentrations of rare earth elements in BIR‐1 for the new ICP‐MS data, agree with compiled values, and previous ID‐SSMS results, whereas ICP‐MS data on HFSE's are systematically higher by about 40% to 70% than ID‐SSMS, but are consistent with data generated at other ICP‐

摘要:
Fifteen rock reference samples “Igneous rock series” issued by the Geological Survey of Japan were analysed for up to 31 elements by neutron activation analysis (NAA); 14 MeV‐NAA for Si and Al, fission track method for U, radiochemical and instrumental NAA for rare‐earth elements, and instrumental NAA for the remaining elements, with reactor neutrons for the latter three. The present results are compared with published

摘要:
The National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) has recently released three soil standard reference materials that are uncontaminated (SRM 2709), moderately contaminated (SRM 2711), and highly contaminated (SRM 2710) with metals. The SRMs were analyzed at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) for thirty two major, minor and trace elements using a combination of wavelength dispersive X‐ray fluorescence spectroscopy (WDXRF) and inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP‐AES). Good agreement is observed between NIST certified values and USGS results. The wide concentration ranges for most transition metals should make these SRMs useful in assessing the accuracy of methods used in geochemical exploration and environmental stud

摘要:
Major and trace elements have been determined by wavelength dispersive X‐ray fluorescence and by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP‐OES), in the Geological Survey of Japan Igneous rock series, using a routine sample preparation technique including lithium borate fusion. Samples were analysed for 10 majors elements and the following trace elements: Ba, Co, Cr, Ga, Nb, Sc, Sr, V, Y, Zn and Zr. The rare‐earth elements were determined only by ICP‐OES following separation by ion exchange. In most cases, results compared well with published

摘要:
Comparison of analytical results obtained for geochemical reference samples with accepted results is tedious and error prone. Graphical representation facilitates comparison. Nevertheless, currently used diagrams lack representativeness when a wide range of concentrations are studied. A newly designed graph representing normalized results against concentrations is proposed. It allows comparison of a wide range of concentrations and helps detect analytical problems for particular ranges of concentrations.

摘要:
The alternative use of lithium tetraborate and/or sodium tetraborate as flux constituents in the quantitative determination of platinum group elements (PGE) in standard reference materials SARM‐7, CHR‐Pt+ and CHR‐Bkg by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry after preconcentration by nickel sulphide fire assay was reinvestigated. Results showed that lithium tetraborate has a lower recovery rate than sodium tetraborate, except for chromitites with PGE abundances in the ppm‐range. Best results for chromitites were obtained by using a mixture (1:1) of the two tetraborates. Examination of the NiS‐reguli by an electron microprobe revealed finer grain‐sizes of PGE‐phases for lithium tetraborate and coarser ones for sodium tetraborate, the finer grains being a possible reason for greater losses during analys

摘要:
Analytical data for 31 elements in 8 Japanese, 12 South African and 5 Belgian Reference Materials of igneous and (meta‐) sedimentary origin are reported. These data have been obtained by Inductively Coupled Plasma‐Atomic Emission Spectrometry (ICP‐AES). For most samples, relative standard deviations are in the range 0.5–3% for major elements, 2–10% for minor elements, and equal to or better than 5% for the REE. Accuracies, as estimated from a comparison with recommended values, are about 10%
