摘要:
In this special issue, working values are reported for 272 international geostandards along with sample description. For many geostandards, the number of compiled data were not adequate enough for assigning working values. Users of geostandards are solicited to contribute more and more data particularly on trace elements. Think Geostan is a slogan that we wish to launch to set this problem in the limelight.

The fluorine concentration in seventy‐one reference samples of geological interest has been determined using fast‐neutron activation analysis. The reaction involved [19F(n, α)16N] uses accelerator‐derived neutrons produced by bombarding a Be target with 3 MeV deuterons. The gamma radiation associated with the decay of16N (t1/2 = 7.13 s) is counted and for the irradiation conditions used there are no serious interferences. The advantages of this technique over other schemes of fluorine determination are its simple procedure for sample preparation, speed, high sensitivity and non‐destructiveness. The concentrations of bromine and iodine in the USGS marine mud MAG‐1, the NRCC marine sediments BCSS‐1 and MESS‐1, and the NBS estuarine sediment SRM 1646 have been determined by energy‐dispersive x‐ray fluorescence spectrometry. Matrix and intermediate thickness effects were overcome by standard additions to constant weights of each sample. 3‐sigma detection limits are 6 ppm Br and 24 ppm I. The determination of indium in geological materials is difficult by usual analytical techniques because of their lack of sensitivity. Neutron activation analysis with special irradiation and counting conditions allows to determine indium ultra‐traces with a quantitative detection limit about a few parts per billion. The 18 Chinese geochemical standard reference samples GSD 9‐12 (stream sediments), GSS 1‐8 (soils) and GSR 1‐6 (rocks) were prepared after GSD 1‐8 (stream sediments) for even wider and increasing needs of geology, exploration geochemistry and geochemical analysis. Usable values of 41 trace, minor and major elements of the 18 samples were published in 1984. In the following two years, efforts were concentrated on the determination of other elements, most of which are more difficult to determine accurately and hence not many data were available in the literature. At the same time, additional data on the 41 elements already evaluated were also submitted. In all, 155 234 results were available along with the 35 284 analytical data submitted. The processing of samples, the examination of sample homogeneity, the plan of collaborative analysis of the samples, and the criteria for defining the recommended values are described. 摘要:
An improved sensitive automated method for the determination of mercury in geological materials by cold vapor atomic absorption has been developed. Sample is digested with nitric and hydrochloric acids at low heat. Mercuric ions in the digested sample solution are reduced to elemental mercury by stannous chloride. The gaseous mercury separated from the solution is swept by a stream of argon into the absorption cell of an LDC/Milton Roy Mercury Monitor where the atomic absorption at 253.7 nm is measured. The precision of the method is 2.7% r.s.d., and the detection limit is 1 ppb. The results on 53 international geochemical reference samples are presented.

Two kaersutite amphiboles from the Kakanui mineral breccia, South Island, New Zealand, have been prepared for electron microprobe analysis. Chemical analyses of bulk samples by XRF techniques are tabulated. These samples may be suitable as international standards.
