摘要:
AbstractThe informational quality of press news about community health nurses is a critical factor in gaining the required public support for the scarce resources needed to advance community health nursing practice. Using content analyses, 2,561 articles on community health nursing for the period 1978–1981 were coded for key message themes and compared with articles on other nursing subjects. Results reveal that although the subject of community health nursing comprised the largest share of all clinical nursing articles, they are (1) less visible in newspapers, (2) distributed unevenly per capita among the various states, and (3) written so as to communicate low‐quality information. Analysis of annual trends shows that community health nursing articles, while expanding in absolute numbers, constitute a declining proportion of nursing articles overall, and that the quality of information in current press coverage is diminishing. It is recommended that community health nurses embark on a concerted campaign to improve the quality of information carried in newspapers about their clinical specia

摘要:
AbstractThe health care industry is preoccupied with increased costs because total expenditures for health services in the United States more than tripled between 1971 and 1981. Policy makers and health providers are looking at what contributes to these expenditures and ways to contain the escalating costs. One solution suggested has been the consideration of alternatives to institutional care, particularly home care. Historically, home care was provided by official or voluntary nursing agencies. Recently, proprietary, private, not‐for‐profit organizations have entered the home care arena. Home care reimbursement methods are a patchwork, causing confusion and cash flow problems. Public funds are administered by different levels of government, by several agencies within each level, and with various eligibility requirements. Private insurance coverage is uneven and limi

摘要:
AbstractA review of the historical evolution of the concept of community health diagnosis in nursing identifies sources of ambiguity that have impeded making the goals and values of community health nursing operational. Refinements of meaning in the conceptualization of the community health diagnosis that focus upon the community as the primary level of analysis are suggested. Implications of this reconceptualization of the practice of community health nursing are considered in guidelines for developing community health diagnoses and in an example of the diagnosis of a Mien refugee community's responses to health problems.

摘要:
AbstractThis article examines several issues relevant to the education of nurses for roles in primary health care. The basic premises of education for community‐based public health practice are put forth. The World Health Organization's seven key principles for primary health care and their cur‐ricular implications for various levels of nursing programs are discussed. Examples are given of nursing education programs in which aspects of primary health care are used; finally, the continuing education needs of nurses are explo

摘要:
AbstractThis paper describes the demographic data of latency‐aged foster children and the reasons for their placement away from birth parents. It also discusses the particular behavior and psychiatric problems that might precipitate referral to a mental health clinic. It then details a program developed to assess and treat those children having minimal involvement of foster or birth parents in their therapy. A consultation/collaboration model theorized by Caplan is applied to the program that developed. A case example is given and the roles of caseworker and mental health clinician are examine
