摘要:
The following paper proposes a simple theoretical model, capable of progressive expansion, to serve as a basis for the statistical investigation of mental inheritance. Formulae are deduced for the analysis of phenotypic variances, and for estimating the covariances and correlations between relatives of different degrees of kinship. Values thus predicted are compared with figures actually observed. It is shown that, with the methods of estimation already available, reasonably accurate assessments can usually be obtained for innate general ability among children of school age.

摘要:
The several problems which are included under the study of factorial similarity are discussed, and the available analytical techniques for rotation to congruence are classified. A new method for the transformation of two or more factor matrices to achieve maximum similarity between them is proposed. The possibility of postulating the same factor structure in different populations and comparing the means, variances, and intercorrelations of factor scores from the different populations is also discussed.

摘要:
An axiomatic model for tests of pure speed is developed, leading to the conclusion that such test scores may, under certain circumstances, be regarded as realizations of a Poisson process. This leads to further study of the situation in terms of strong true score theory with the assumption of a Poisson distribution of scores and true score equal to the parameter of the Poisson distribution. Important conclusions are that (1) the Spearman‐Brown formula holds in continuous time, (2) the raw moments of the distribution of true scores are obtainable from a knowledge of the factorial moments of observed scores over a population of examinees, and (3) under reasonable assumptions the distribution of observed scores over examinees ought to be negative binomial. An empirical example is given demonstrating the fit of the model to various predictions based on the model. In particular, the Poisson assumption can be tested independently of any assumption about the distribution of true or observed scores over examinee

摘要:
A recurring problem is the estimation of regression parameters when the data sample is hypothesized to have been generated by more than a single regression model. This problem of ‘piecewise regression’ has been examined previously by using a combination of regression theory and hierarchical cluster analysis. The approach espoused here is applicable in a limited domain, but when it applies allows a solution to be found with very little calculation. Tukey's ‘jackknife’ is used to test the meaningfulness of any suggested subdivision of the regression curve into pieces. Two examples are i

摘要:
Some aspects of the quantitative interpretation of stress are discussed on the basis of random sets of synthetic dissimilarity matrices. In Section 1 the relation between measurement error and stress is studied. Synthetic dissimilarities are obtained starting from a random configuration ofnpoints (n= 8, 10, and 12) intdimensions (1 ≤t≤ 3), and adding a fractional error to the interpoint distances. These dissimilarity sets are then analysed inmdimensions (1 ≤m≤ 5). The results give an idea of how the stress is influenced by measurement error and the chosen dimensionality of the analysis. In practice, the results can be used for estimating both the true dimensionality and the measurement error of a set of data. In Section 2 the probability distribution of the stress‐percentages inmdimensions (1 ≤m≤ 5) is estimated in cases of randomly chosen dissimilarities amongnpoints (7 ≤n≤ 12). The results can be an aid in determining the significance of a multidimensional representation of

摘要:
Computer simulation experiments are performed to investigate the applicability of different tests of treatment and interaction effects in mixed two‐way designs with dichotomous data. The main results are that theFtest can be used with good approximation as a test of equal treatment effects, except for strongly asymmetric populations, and that theFtest may be used with some caution as a test of no interactio

摘要:
Suppose that each of a sample of subjects is assigned to one ofmcategories by one standard, and to one of the samemcategories by a second standard. A comparison of the two resulting marginal distributions may be made by means of Stuart's and Maxwell's generalization of McNemar's test. Explicit expressions are given for the generalized statistic whenm= 3 andm= 4. Methods are suggested for identifying those categories for which significant differences exist. A numerical example is given.
