摘要:
Radical activism in sociology can be explained as reaction against developments in American society, university structure, social theory and the American Sociology Association. Beginning in 1967 with a controversy over a Vietnam resolution, it has grown to include organized opposition through the Sociology Liberation Movement and the separation of the Black Sociologists Association. The assumptions behind sociology as an academic field and an occupation, have been and are being tested and found erroneous by an increasing number of sociologists.

摘要:
Is present Western sociology helping prepare revolution? Conservative and liberal sociologies clearly help keep the social system as it is without questioning it at its roots. But also the current radical research is not as radical as it may seem, since it implicitly accepts the socio‐political ignorance of the masses and does not question the neo‐capitalistic principle of separation between theory and praxis. The final objective of a revolutionary sociology should be to make all people become their own revolutionary sociologi

摘要:
This is a preliminary report of a larger project concerning the dependence upon and control of engineers and scientists by the military‐corporate structure. Here there is (1) a brief description of the American military economy; (2) an analysis of various explanations of why previous social science research about professionals doing military work in “civilian” corporations has not focused upon the meaning attached to the end product of work–weapons; (3) a typology of role‐orientations of engineers and scientists in the war‐defense industries, i.e., patterns of perceptions, evaluations, and actions. The article concludes with advocacy ofpartisan sociology—a sociology

摘要:
The American military exercises social control at home as well as abroad, by non‐violent as well as violent means. Especially significant is its use of differential co‐optative appeals to control potentially revolutionary strata of youth. Through an examination of military recruiting literature it is possible to discover that different inducements for enlistment, ranging from professionalism to patriotism are offered to women, intellectuals, minority and working class youth. Further, through selectively granting deferments as part of the channeling process, the Selective Service System reinforces the American social structure. Such reinforcement is necessary for the preservation of American corporate liberalism, but simultaneously contributes to the radicalization of youth as a cl
