摘要:
AbstractThis article explores how an infant might represent object‐related, interpersonal experience. To be clinically relevant, our exploration is limited to goal‐directed, motivated behavior. We propose that motives—as enacted and subjectively experienced—result in a unit of ongoing subjective experience called an “emergent moment.” We suggest that such “moments” are represented in at least six separate, parallel, basic schematic formats: sensorimotor schemas; perceptions; concepts; scripts; “temporal feeling shapes”; and “protonarrative envelopes.” The temporal feeling shape is proposed as a format for representing affects. And the protonarrative envelope is proposed as a format for representing the global experience in a narrative‐like form. All six schematic formats, taken together, comprise a network of schemas that we call the “schema‐of‐being‐with.”.An extended clinical example is given of the different “schemas‐of‐being‐with‐a‐depressed‐mother” that generally form and become clinically imp

摘要:
AbstractThis paper discusses the manipulation of mental representations, particularly in relation to the psychoanalytic concepts of conscious or unconscious fantasy. A distinction is made between the unconscious phenomenal (experiential) aspect of representations and the nonexperiential, quasi‐structural aspect. The concept of the representational world is described and elaborated, and its development is seen as a consequence of the infant's interaction with itself and the external world. Processes such as identification and projection can be seen in terms of changes in self and object representations, and the same is true for all the mechanisms of defense. The content of unconscious wishes is transformed, by use of such mechanisms, into representations that are acceptable to consciousness. Major transformations of unconscious representational content occur in the process of creating unconscious (preconscious) fantasy, and further transformations are frequently needed before such (preconscious) fantasies are permitted access to consciousness. The concept of projective identification is considered in the light of the ideas put forward in the pape

摘要:
AbstractThe interfaces between the intrapsychic, interactional, and intergenerational domains are a new frontier. As a pilot, we exposed ourselves to a complex but controllable situation as viewed by people whose main interest is in one of the three interfaces; we also fully integrated the subjects in the team, to learn about their subjective perspectives and to provide them with an enriching experience. We started with a brief “triadification” sequence (i.e., moving from a “two plus one” to a “three together” family organization). Considering this sequence as representing at a micro level many larger family transitions, we proceeded with a microanalytic interview, a psychodynamic investigation, and a family interview. As expected, larger patterns of correspondences are emerging. Central questions under debate are: What are the most appropriate units at each level of description and what are their articulations between these levels? What is the status of “tr
