摘要:
AbstractAn eight month infant‐stimulation/parent‐education program was presented to mother‐child dyads participating in one of three types of classes: a structured twenty‐two session group, an unstructured twenty‐two session group, or a structured eleven session group. Infants (2–15 months) in all intervention groups as well as those from a control group were tested three times (pre‐test, mid‐test, post‐test) during the course of the program using the Bayley Mental Test of Infant Development and the Uzgiris‐Hunt Ordinal Scales of Psychological Development. Results tend to indicate that the intervention strategy was an effective method of parent education in enhancing infant gains on developmental indices. The results are discussed in relation to a preventative psyc

摘要:
AbstractThirty mothers aged 14–19 and their approximately one‐year‐old babies participated in this study of the influence of the social support network and stress on infant‐mother attachment and on mastery motivation. During the home visit the mothers completed a demographic questionnaire, the Psychosocial Kinship Inventory and the Life Events Stress Scale. In the laboratory the infants' mastery motivation and infant‐mother attachment were assessed. A discriminant function analysis indicated that infant‐mother attachment was predicted best by the social support network. Multiple regression analyses showed that infant persistence was significantly related to the social network, living with the infant's grandmother and financial aid. The results stress the importance of contextual influences on infant socio‐emotiona

摘要:
AbstractA significant proportion of infants receiving treatment in programs designed to prevent abuse and psychosocial disorders may be removed from the custody of their parents by social service agencies. In an effort to help distinguish those cases at risk for termination of parental rights (TPR), seven such cases were analyzed and compared to seven similar cases where TPR did not occur. All 14 cases were referred because of abuse/neglect, and were at risk for continued abuse. Results showed that TPR was most likely in families where the parents were viewed as being unpleasant, as having a poor relationship with their child, were seen as retarded by the social service agency, and whose infants showed large gains in developmental level, especially during foster placement. These findings were interpreted as indicating a mixture of actual lack of progress in treatment and a negative attitudinal set about these clients.

摘要:
AbstractThe public school is discussed as a milieu in which to provide parent education for parents of preschool children. Primary prevention within the public school setting is designated as a means by which many children and families can be reached while the mental health of infants and young children is addressed as an integral concern of the community. The Parent and Preschooler's Program is described as an example of the implementation of a preschool parent education program in a public school which was initiated by community members and is eagerly supported by the school system.

摘要:
AbstractThe notion of a “rejecting” baby has not received much attention in the research literature. One member of a pair of twins which came to our attention provided a good example of a “rejecting” baby. This baby avoided eye contact with all people at close proximity. It is possible that the notion of “rejecting” babies should be attended to by parents, doctors and others involved with the welfare of young children. Perhaps they do not know what to look for in the early phases of this expression. It is possible these early omissions mask detection of later behavioral difficulties, by which time such children have acquired distinctive interactive styles increasingly resistent to m
