摘要:
AbstractApplications in modem nonlinear data analysis techniques indicate that chaotic dynamics are quite common, and that in many cases random behaviour is due to low dimensional chaos rather than complicated dynamics involving many irreducible degrees of freedom. The great promise of chaos lies in the hope that randomness might become predictable. Although chaotic dynamics puts limits on longterm prediction, it implies predictability over the short term. The monitoring of a single scalar observable is sufficient for characterizing and understanding the dynamics of a finite-dimensional attractor. The first step in analyzing such experimental data is a reconstruction of the observed dynamics. A new procedure to forecast the next value in a chaotic time series has been developed by using a modified version of Oi’s work. The basic idea of the proposed approach is to embed the data in a state space and then use a straightforward numerical technique to build a nonlinear dynamic model. Practically, the authors’procedure can be considered as a local linearization of the generating law approximated by the data relationship in the reconstructed embedding space. It has been tested on many well-known synthetic chaotic systems, giving very good results. The procedure is used to predict the behaviour of time series extracted from a rhythmic pattern database composed by patterns from six different rhythms, three different tempos, three different instruments, and three different degrees of complexity for a total number of 162 time series. The average absolute percentage error over 100 predicted values is computed to evaluate the precision of the prediction.

摘要:
AbstractNonlinear systems may be solved by functional iterations whose convergence properties depend on the properties of contraction mapping defining the iterative process. The path of contraction is defined by a sequence of matrices, known as decaying matrices of D-matrices. When so defined, contraction-mapping, which is a local property of the iteration mapping, becomes a D-mapping which decays and contracts globally. D-mappings reveal convergence or divergence of nonlinear functional iterations. They also give an apriori rate of convergence.

摘要:
AbstractA new approach to the study of a consecutive-k-out-of-r-from-n:F system with any component reliability is presented. A random variable describing the behaviour of this general system is defined. Its probability density function, mean, and variance, system reliability, and the Bimbaum importance of system components are investigated by simulation for a variety of values ofn, randk. The analysis is supported by graphs and tables. Easily computed bounds on system reliability in the independent and identically distributed case are given. The proposed simulation method is compared to other existing methods associated with several failure systems.

摘要:
AbstractThis paper presents a distributed simulator for performance analysis of various applications in the asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) environment. The simulator is used to determine how the quality of a service, either synchronous or asynchronous, is affected when it is transmitted through an ATM network under various traffic conditions. The simulator has been implemented in a distributed Unix environment using network and operating system functions and simulates the three lower layers of B-ISDN. It has been based on the time-driven approach, and is modular and expandable because it uses standard operating system calls for adapting new applications and services to the simulator environment. The paper presents performance analysis results of constant and variable bit rate services, as well as experimental results on compressed and uncompressed image transmissions.

摘要:
AbstractIn this paper conserved nets, which are a subclass of Petri nets, are proposed to facilitate the modelling, analysis, and simulation of flexible manufacturing systems (FMS). Conserved nets ensure that a Petri net model has the property of conservativeness. FVom the structural characteristics of conserved nets, liveness conditions are easily obtained. Although hardware components of FMS are modelled using conserved nets, real-time decision systems are separately modelled from the analysis results of the conserved Petri net model. The modelling and simulation procedure is demonstrated with an example machine centre.
