ZusammenfassungAusgehend von Cassirers Dictum «man is constantly conversing with himself» wird ein Versuch unternommen, die widerspriichliche Erfahrung, sich reflektierend zugleich als ein Subjekt und als ein Objekt vomfinden, in der dialogischen Verfassung des Menschen zu verankern.Philosophieren als Vollzug und Darstellung menschlicher Selbstbestimmung kann erst in der Rekonstruktion von Handlungs‐ und Sprachkompetenz mit dialogischen Elementarsituationen ihres Enverbs einen Begriff von sich selbst entwickeln, der beide Übergänge, den von der Gegenstandsebene zur Darstellungsebene (Distanzierung durch 〉Objektivierung〈) und den umgekehrten (Aneignung durch 〉Symbolisierung〈) als Mittel des Zusammenhangs von 〉Praxis〈 und 〉Theorie〈 (traditionell: 〉Körper〈 und 〉

SummaryThis paper argues that the influence of language on science, philosophy and other field is mediated by communicative practices. Where communications is more restrictive, established linguistic structures exercise a tighter control over innovations and scientifically motivated reforms of language. The viewpoint here centers on the thesis that argumentation is crucial in the understanding and evaluation of proposed reforms and that social practices which limit argumentation serve to erode scientific objectivity. Thus, a plea is made for a sociology of scientific belief designed to understand and insure social‐institutional conditions of the possibility of knowledge and its growth. SummaryIn this paper I try to make sense of and give provisional answers to question like: Are there interesting theories about natural kinds (distinguishing them form other kinds)? Are some classifications or categorisations more natural than others? Does it matter whether or not there are natural kinds? To get an initial feel for the subject let's consider some suggestions from the literature as to what might count as a candidate for a natural kind or natural kind term.

ZusammenfassungPhilosophen, insbesondere Wissenschaftstheoretiker, wurden oft so sehr von der Physik geblendet, dass sie die Bedeutung der Biologie fiir die Philosophie unterschatzt haben. Es wird beschrieben, wie Biologen in der Taxonomie mit der Klassifikation umgehen, wie verschieden ihre Vorgangsweise von der traditionellen Definitions‐ und Klassifikationstheorie ist, und wie sie die klare Fregesche Trennung zwischen Extension und Intension durcheinander bringt. Dadurch konnen Sprachphilosophen von Biologen uber die Sprache etwas lernen. SummaryThe topic of this symposium gives rise to questions like these: How do we come to talk about nature in the way we do in science? In particular, what, precisely, are the relations between the “technical” language of science and the language we use in our everyday talk about the world and its contents? How, if at all, does the language of everyday life influence the language of science? In order to confront them, it is necessary first to clarify the conception of what “science” and “language” are. In the first section of this paper, I will be concerned with the question of what science is; in the second section, I will more briefly discuss what I take language to be, and will offer an interpretation of the relations between language and science. In the third section I will briefly discuss some consequences of the view I have presented for
