AbstractThe covariance principle of general relativity is extended to internal space. Associated gauge fields and tensors are systematically described, whereupon the variational principle is set up for all gauge fields by applying a Palatini‐type method, thereby giving rise to an attractive self‐contained theory in which the Einstein equations are intrinsically synthesized with the generalized Yang‐Mills equations. General gauge‐covariant physical field equations are formulated, showing that currents, external + internal spin tensors, and energy‐momentum tensors can be introduced unambiguously under these general conditions and that the associated conservation laws can be derived. The electromagnetic field finds its gauge‐geometric origin as the gauge field related to internal densities. To be operative with the tensor indices of external and internal types, this general theory must be bimetric. AbstractIn this paper we discuss in detail the hyothesis that nuclei show extended quark and gluon modes when explored with a high resolution probe. We call this color conductivity at high resolution. We relate color conductivity to the behaviour of proton‐proton total and elastic cross sections at high energies. For deep inelastic muon‐nucleon scattering we discuss in detail the nuclear evolution equation following from color conductivity and introduced by us previously. The EMC Fe/d data are well described by our theory if due allowance is made for the quoted systematic error. We predict striking effects from color conductivity in the final state of deep inelastic lepton‐nucleus scattering. The possibility of making fundamental tests of quantum chromodynamics in leptonnucleus scattering is emphasized. We connect the shadowing phenomenon to the volume and surface terms in the Bethe‐Weizsäcker formula for the nuclear binding energy. Finally we point out that deep inelastic scattering on deformed nuclei may be crucial to distinguish between different theories of the EM

AbstractIn the present paper the attributes of nonclassical light with respect to the theoretical basis, the experimental verification, and the applications are discussed and compared. If one ore more of the corresponding statistical measures (fluctuation excess, bunching excess, Poisson excess) attain negative values, surprising new properties of photon states occur. AbstractThis paper reports details on the design of the Nd: glass laser facility NIXE at the Central Institute of Optics and Spectroscopy, including the target chamber and thex‐ray diagnostics, spatial and temporal behaviour of the 1.06 μm radiation generated are given.Plane, massive targets of aluminium and silicon have been irradiated with 6‐nsec FWHM laser pulses.Investigations of laser produced Al‐ and Si‐plasmas have been performed with spectral and spatial high resolution diagnostics, consisting of a 3 channel crystal‐spectrometer, 2 crystal‐microscopes, and 2 pinhole cameras and the results are presented. Line spectra have been interpreted within the hypothesis of a steady state coronal equilibrium. He‐like lines of the Al‐plasma indicate temperatures up to 400 eV and densities up to 2 · 1020cm−3.
