摘要:
Three patients with hyperprolactinemia (2 with pituitary tumors and 1 with a hypothalamic disturbance) underwent evaluation of their hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis using ACTH, metyrapone and in one case repetitive insuün tolerance tests. With the exception of a suggestion of a slight increase in adrenal responsiveness to pharmacological doses of ACTH in one of the patients, there was no alteration in the adrenal responsiveness of the 3 patients evaluated. We conclude that hyperprolactinemia probably does not systematically modify the responsiveness of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis

摘要:
The functional capacity of the gonadotrophs was assessed by repeated stimulation with small doses of LH-RH (5 µg intravenously at 2-hour intervals for 3 injections) in normal women during the early and late follicular phases of the menstrual cycle. The results were compared to those obtained when a single large dose (100 µg) of the neurohormone was administered. During the early follicular phase, the release of LH and FSH remained about equal after the 3 successive injections of the small and after the large dose of LH-RH. During the late follicular phase, the release of LH and FSH increased progressively after the repeated administration of the 5 µg dose of the neurohormone while the large dose induced a more pronounced and a more sustained pituitary response. This hypersensitivity of the gonadotrophs is observed when the E2 concentrations are higher than in the early follicular phase of the menstrual cyc

摘要:
We describe 3 patients with metastatic medullary carcinoma of the thyroid who were treated with doxorubicin hydrochloride (Adriamycin). Serum calcitonin was measured before and after doxorubicin therapy. Doxorubicin failed to arrest the progression of the disease in any of the patients. Although serum calcitonin levels dropped in 1 patient during therapy, they remained markedly elevated in all 3 patients. From the present series it appears that medullary thyroid carcinoma often does not have a response to doxorubicin.

摘要:
The level of pregnenolone increased within 1 h and remained high for 4 h after an intravenous injection of HCG in conscious rabbits. Peaks for progesterone, estrogens and dehydroepiandrosterone were recorded at 2 h, and that of 20α-dihydroprogesterone 6 h after HCG injection. At the time of ovulation the serum concentrations of all steroids had returned to their basal levels. It seems that HCG maintained a high production of pregnenolone and promoted the synthesis of different steroids

摘要:
Prostaglandins of the F and E series at concentrations from 1 to 100 µg/ml had no effect on steroidogenesis by isolated rabbit follicles. Indomethacin and 7-oxa-13-prostynoic acid at doses lower than 100 µg/ml failed to prevent the LH-induced increase in testosterone accumulation by follicles. At 1 mg/ml these inhibitors prevented the LH effects. Prostaglandin E2 and F2α, had no effect on testosterone accumulation. However, prostaglandin E2 seemed to enhance the LH-induced accumulation of androstenedione and progesterone by the follicles. These data suggest that prostaglandins play a minor role in steroidogenesis by isolated rabbit ovarian follicl

摘要:
Diurnal rhythm in body temperature of pigeons subjected to different experimental conditions (pinealectomized, sham-operated, melatonin-implanted, cold-exposed) was studied under a 12 h light and 12 h dark regimen. The body temperature of pigeons during photophase was higher than that during scotophase in the normal as well as every treatment group studied. Pinealectomized pigeons showed higher body temperature in the photophase as well as scotophase, than that of the normal and sham-operated birds when examined 2 or 3 weeks following the post-surgical acclimatization to 25 or 3° C. However, subcutaneous implantation of melatonin pellets into pinealectomized pigeons nullified or even reversed the hyperthermic effect of pinealectomy. Exposure of pigeons to – 18° C for 280 min during photophase as well as scotophase, produced a marked drop in body temperature in pinealectomized, sham-operated and normal pigeons. The pinealectomized pigeons exhibited a higher body temperature than that of the sham-operated and normal ones when exposed to –18°C during the photophase, but not during the scotophase. It was concluded that while the pineal is not necessary for maintaining the daily thermal rhythm in the avian body, it has a thermoregulatory role, in that it prevents rise in body temperature in warm (25°C) acclimatized and chronic cold (3°C) exposed birds. In acute short-term cold (-18°C) exposure however, the temperature regulatory role of the pineal was not effective during the s
