摘要:
In recent years new ways of strategic thinking have been proposed. Increasing competition and globalisation of markets have brought forth claims that the approaches presented by Ansoff and Porter are insufficient or even incorrect. Certain indications that the Mintzbergian approach would be more appropriate can be found, but also attempts to combine these exist. But, where does this discussion lead us in strategic management (SM)? We still seem to be left with the unsolved pressing problems of real—life firms. In this discussion the role of decision support systems (DSS) is emerging again. Past doubts are being reviewed and DSS are again seen as potentially effective tool that could have an significant impact in strategic decision—making processes. Two new frameworks are emerging, the Conversational Framework for Decision Support and the Hyperknowledge environment, as potential basis for developing a new generation of DSS—active DSS. The connection between an active DSS and strategic management is shown in a proposed framework for strategic decisions.

摘要:
We have developed a system called Woodstrat to serve as a support system for strategic management on both the corporate, the divisional and the business unit levels. The system is modular and is built around the logic of strategic management, that is, the main modules cover the market position, the competitive position, the production position, the profitability and financing positions. The innovation in Woodstrat is that these modules are linked together: a strong market position will have an immediate positive impact on profitability trough hyperknowledge links running from market assumptions to the projected profit/loss statement; there are similar links making the competitive position interact with the market position, and the production position interact with both the market, the competitive, the profitability and the financing positions. The Woodstrat system has been implemented in a number of strategic business units and successfully used as a support system for the strategy formation process in these units.

摘要:
This paper examines an increasingly common problem: that of understanding which tool or tools out of an array is the most appropriate for a problem owner to apply to solve his problem. Several attempts at providing decision support for such cases have been attempted. This paper briefly surveys this work and presents the use of an implemented system which is for use by designers of computer systems who seek to use tools and techniques for improving the usability of the systems they design. Besides aiding the user to choose tools appropriate for helping with his problem, the system has also shown to be useful as a learning system, as well as a transfer mechanism for conveying the results of laboratory research into the real world.

摘要:
The field service (FS) department constitutes, in many companies, an important organisation playing a vital role in their overall success. Field service managers require tools to analyse the impact of their decisions on the customer service level, which must be as high as possible (at least 95 %), and inventory cost, trying to reduce it to a minimum level (its ratio to the total FS revenue must be less than 10%). Such a tool is presented in this paper. We applied a closed queuing network model, the CAN_Q (computer Analysis of Networks of Queue) developed by Solberg. This model, although originally developed for modelling flexible manufacturing systems, has been applied to the FS departmentof a subsidiary of multinational computer company in Greece, and it has proved to be very efficient from the computational point of view and constitutes a powerfull tool for the FS managers, providing them with some useful performance measures. Its successful application opens new avenues of research, i.e., testing other queuing network models available from the literature, in combination with various inventory control models to help FS managers solve their critical problems.
