摘要:
This article is an introduction to this special issue on values and ethical issues in family therapy. The author discusses the historical context for the rising interest in these issues in family therapy, describes the rationale for this special issue, and presents a framework for analyzing the core values of the prominent models of family therapy. The ethical debate over use of paradoxical techniques in family therapy is used as an illustration of a values clash between different models of family therapy.

摘要:
During the past 15 years, the negative implications of the female gender role, as demonstrated by marital dissatisfaction and mental health problems, have been documented extensively in the social science, psychology, and feminist literatures. In this article, developmental and psychological assumptions about women that are fundamental to current marriage and family therapy practice are explored. The authors call attention to the absence of substantive knowledge about women's development and to the ethical risks associated with reliance on traditional gender role notions in work with female clients. Ethical guidelines for reducing bias in therapy, especially with couples and families, are offered to counselors and therapists for evaluation and refinement of professional gender role sensitivity.

摘要:
Organized assessment procedures are used as prefaces to therapy to help in transmittal of information and structuring of relationships, as well as in gathering of information. The apparent output from such procedures can be a tangled mix of descriptive information and value judgment in which the values of the tester are confused with facts about those tested. Because of possible costs to therapy and the difficulty of obtaining clear information, caution in the use of such procedures is suggested.

摘要:
In this article the author discusses the nature, complexity, meaning, and function of values, their presence in the family counselor or therapist as well as in the family in treatment, and the consequences for treatment of the interplay between those two value systems. A brief conceptualization of values is offered, followed by (a) a discussion of family language as a key to identifying salient values, (b) where values are experienced, (c) timing as a value in counseling, (d) the relationship between therapy and the ideology of cultural relativism, (e) midwestern American farming family values thai illustrate an ethnographic approach to family assessment and intervention, and if) therapist values and the professional values of family therapy as a social movement. A number of vignettes from the author's work with families and supervision of family medicine residents in family counseling illustrate the theoretical and methodological issues that are raised.

摘要:
In this article, significant ethical issues that arise in the conduct of family therapy research are considered and four major areas are emphasized: (a) the researcher's responsibility to protect the rights of research participants, (b) confidentiality and informed consent, (c) the researcher's values, and (d) methodology. In each area, parallels are drawn between the ethical issues facing family clinicians and those facing family researchers.

摘要:
In 1969 a new primary care medical specialty, family practice, was formally created. One element in the development of this specialty from the roots of general practice was an understanding of the importance of family process in health and health care. Family physicians are now trained to work with families in the provision of primary medical care, and many provide some formal family counseling and therapy. The family physician who works with families faces many of the same ethical conflicts with which family therapists are confronted. The primary relationship of the family physician to his or her patients, however, as the provider of continuing health care, modifies these conflicts and creates new and vexing problems.

摘要:
THERE SEEMS TO BE little empirical research on religion and religious values among college students, particularly regarding race and sex differences. For example, even though religion has been found to be an important and unifying force among Blacks (White, 1984), there does not seem to be any research on religious change and practices among Black college students. In the literature on female college students and religion, one study on religious attitude change (McAllister, 1981) found womens' attitudes to be more positive and traditional in 1974 than in the early 1960s and 1970s. Additionally, in some studies the relationships have been examined between religious attitudes and beliefs and sexual attitudes and beliefs among female students (King, Abernathy, Robinson,&Balswick, 1976; Mahoney, 1980; Young, 1981). To better understand such trends and relationships, the changes in religion and related values at one university by race and sex were studied over a 10‐year period. A 29‐item questionnaire on religion and related values was administered to a representative sample of incoming freshmen at the University of Maryland, College Park, in 1973 (N = 270: 41% men, 59% women; 70% White, 11% Black) and 1983 (N = 389: 55% men, 45% women; 77% White, 13% Black). Data were analyzed using chi‐ square and multivariate analysis of variance at the .05
