摘要:
Counselor educators of 1964 are described comparatively through use of data obtained from a U.S. Office of Education directory of counselor educators and membership directories of APGA and APA. Highest degree groups were used for most comparisons, but ACES regional and professional membership groups were also used. PhDs outnumbered EdDs appreciably and Masters plus Others fell far behind both. Three ACES regions outranked the two others significantly on proposition of PhDs. APGA membership was higher than APA with EdDs ranking first on the former and PhDs on the latter. Employment, certification, and licensure and professional interest data showed PhDs more psychologically oriented than EdDs. Overall, the group represented education more than psychology and limited commitment to and interest in counseling and counselor education.

摘要:
This study was conducted to determine whether significant benefits would be derived from providing counselor trainees with psychoanalytically oriented group psychotherapy. Twenty trainees were divided into 2 therapy groups that met for 30 1.5‐hour weekly sessions. Each experimental trainee was matched with a control (no treatment) trainee counterpart on the basis of sex, number of graduate credits, and counseling specialty. The instruments administered were: the Tennessee Self Concept Scale, the Elmore Psychological Anomie Scale, the Edwards Personal Preference Schedule, and the Porter Counseling Inventory. There were no significant differences on the Tennessee Self Concept Scale. On the Elmore Psychological Anomie Scale, the control subjects had an increase on Valuelessness (p= .181). On the Edwards Personal Preference Schedule, the experimental subjects had an increase on Deference (p= .033) and a decrease on Exhibition (p= .190) and Change (p= .091). On the Porter Counseling Inventory, the experimental subjects achieved an increase in Evaluative (p= .112) and Interpretive (p= .034) responses and a decrease in Understanding (p= .083) responses. The relevance to training of both the lack of definitive differences on some of the variables and the significant findings were discussed. The data were interpreted as providing support for the value of a psychotherapeutic experience as part of training programs, particularly those that accept a psychoanalytic orientatio

摘要:
Twelve experienced counselors engaged in an intensive 40‐hour training program over a two‐week period. It was hypothesized that they would make rapid gains in accurate empathy and non‐possessive warmth and that counselors initially highest on these dimensions would show the greatest increase during training. There was a substantial and significant increase in accurate empathy, but counselors initially high (N = 6) and counselors initially low (N = 6) made approximately equal gains on empathy. No overall gains were made on nonpossessive warmth, and there was evidence suggesting that some decrease may have occurred, particularly within those counselors initially providing high levels of warmth. The pre‐training empathy and warmth levels of these counselors were compared with those in other studies conducted in training programs not providing specific training in empathy and warmth. The comparison data were consistent with the hypothesis that gains on these dimensions occur after the initial graduate training

摘要:
Sixty‐nine counselor trainees in Alberta, Canada, completed the Interpersonal Check List at the beginning and end of their training year. On both occasions trainees responded to a “set” for self‐concept and self‐ideal. The congruence between self and ideal (S‐I) was tested for both linear and curvilinear relationships with supervisor ratings and final practicum grades of students. A curvilinear relationship was found between (S‐I) congruence and final performance measures for full‐time male practicum students, suggesting the presence of an optimal range of

摘要:
Counselor educators have not made widespread use of the various instructional designs, programs, and materials that have been developed by educational technologists. The use of instructional objectives is one of the keystones of the new educational technology. Their use in designing programs for preparing counselors and counseling psychologists is described.

摘要:
A review of the literature reveals that little research has been conducted on the role of the State Supervisor of Guidance Services. More specifically, the literature review did not yield any factor analysis studies on this role. A questionnaire sent to 280 state directors and supervisors of guidance services in the 50 states was the instrument used to gather the data that was subsequently analyzed on an IBM 360, Model 50 computer. The factor analysis yielded three major categories: Promotion, Service, and Noninvolvement. Since this is the only factor study conducted to date on the role of the State Supervisor of Guidances, it should serve as a foundation for similar future studies.

摘要:
Leadership responsibilities and behaviors of directors of guidance were first identified and classified by the writers and then rated by each counselor in terms of his expectations and perceptions of his director's leadership. The “Guidance Director Descriptionnaire” was developed to measure directors' behaviors in leadership roles. Counselors were least satisfied with: their directors' support of them as professional persons, their limited involvement in program planning and operation, and in communication within the program and the school. Counselor educators and supervisors of counselors should be concerned about the functions not understood or not performed by directors which the counselors perceived as limiting the effectiveness of the guidance progr

摘要:
Administrative practices and their relationship to counselor role conflict, as perceived by school counselors, was investigated by survey questionnaire in Massachusetts and Connecticut. Results indicated that counselors feel that role clarification would ensue if guidance pupil personnel services directors had administrative jurisdiction of programs and that the main deterrent is traditional autonomy of the building principal. At the secondary level, principals tend to have supervisory and administrative control, while at the elementary level the reverse trend appears to be true.

摘要:
The study investigated differences in self‐description (obtained by using the Osgood Semantic Differential Technique) between counselor‐trainees indicating first occupational preference for counseling and those indicating preference for an educational specialty other than counseling (i.e., teaching, administration, school psychology). In addition, these two groups were compared in terms of the degree of similarity between their individual self descriptions and their descriptions of each of the specialty groups. No differences were found between the counseling preferred and the noncounseling preferred groups in their self‐descriptions (as expressed in terms of three factors: evaluation, potency, activity). However, it was found that the counseling‐preferred group described themselves significantly more similar to the way in which they described counselors than did the noncounseling specialty preferred group. In fact, in terms of magnitude of difference between self‐description and descriptions of the various specialists, the non‐counseling specialty preferred group describes itself as resembling counselors least. Implications for further research wer
