摘要:
Rarely are students given the opportunity to evaluate the total effect of a counselor education program on them as persons, learners, and emerging professionals. This article describes a comprehensive system analysis in which students evaluated their educational experience on such dimensions as faculty‐student communication and decision making, psychological closeness, freedom to express deviant views, sexual and racial bias, and the degree to which the program climate encouraged them to be active rather than passive learners. Results categorized the program as consultative—a system in which power and authority are freely shared yet are not distributed equa

摘要:
This study compared the students' and parents' views with respect to both the perceived and the ideal role of the secondary school counselor. It was found that parents assigned higher ratings to both perceptions and expectations of counselors than did students, and both parents and students held higher expectations than perceptions of counselors. Apparently irreconcilable conflicts among idealized roles were found, which suggested implications for counselor training programs.

摘要:
The major purpose of this investigation was to develop a program for teaching a specific counselor verbal skill and to examine the effect of simulation methods within the program. The program consisted of model, practice, and test phases. High and low fidelity methods were used within each phase. Sixty‐four counselor trainees were randomly assigned to the 16 treatment groups. The low fidelity composite treatment was the least effective. Results are discussed in terms of training and future researc

摘要:
A 50‐item questionnaire designed to assess information on attitudes about women and work was mailed to a sample of ACES members. Responses from 128 males and 64 females were analyzed. On the basis of an earlier survey of school counselors, it was expected that females would be better informed and express more positive attitudes than males. It was also expected that younger members would express more positive attitudes than older ones. It was found that, in general, ACES members are well informed and express positive attitudes. However, substantial numbers of members made incorrect or unfavorable responses to at least 25 percent of the items. Such responses appeared as likely to occur for either sex and irrespective of age, but men appeared to be misinformed about more fundamental matters than wome

摘要:
This article describes a 10‐week workshop for experienced counselors who are interested in learning to do group counseling. It describes the treatment process, the selection of enrollees, the laboratory experiences provided for both personal and professional development, and the supervision provided. Follow‐up evaluation of the workshop with participants revealed that they achieved most of their personal and professional goals. The author believes that three primary elements contributed to the success of the workshop: (a) carefully selected, committed, competent students, (b) committed, competent staff, and (c) the allocation of adequate staff time to provide quality supervis
