摘要:
This article discusses the implications of ego development theory and assessment for the supervision and education of counselors. Using Loevinger's theory as a model, current thinking and research on the relationship between ego development theory and counseling supervision are examined. The author proposes that the concept of matching methodology, counselor, and client through ego development assessment may also be applied to the supervision and education of counselors at all levels.

摘要:
The purpose of this audiovisual counseling study was to determine if variations in counselor nonverbal behavior result in enhanced or debilitated perceptions of counselor expertness, attractiveness, trustworthiness, and helpfulness. Three groups of participants rated the perceived expertness, attractiveness, trustworthiness, and helpfulness of a counselor emitting nonverbal behavior at a high, moderate, or low frequency. In addition, a fourth group rated the perceived expertness, attractiveness, trustworthiness, and helpfulness of the counselor role. Results indicate that: (a) low frequency counselor nonverbal behavior results in debilitated perceptions of counselors; (b) the counselor role is perceived as moderately expert, attractive, trustworthy, and helpful; and (c) compared with the counselor role, high frequency counselor nonverbal behavior does not enhance the perceived expertness, attractiveness, trustworthiness, and helpfulness of counselors. Implications for counseling practice, theory, and research are discussed.

摘要:
Two precounseling orientation presentations for prospective clients were examined in this study: a verbal presentation and a researcher‐developed audiovisual presentation delivered on a color television monitor. The findings were based on a pretest and posttest assessment of client expectations; they indicated that the audiovisual presentation significantly enhanced expectations that would focus on affective variables. The verbal approach, however, had no effect on expectation

摘要:
This article is a comprehensive survey of research published over a 12‐year period on skill‐training programs used to enhance the interpersonal effectiveness of counselors. It descibes, analyzes, and synthesizes significant patterns in the content and format of training programs and highlights the strengths and limitations in research methodology employed. The investigations reviewed were analyzed in relation to purpose, training models, training duration, training methods, interpersonal skill focus, and research design issues. Implications for counselor training are explored, and directions for future research are discus

摘要:
This study presents the results of a national survey of the counseling and guidance staff and its functions within state departments of education throughout the United States and four territories during the past decade. Counseling and guidance section directors in state departments of education in the U.S. received a letter describing the nature and purpose of the study and a request for cooperation by completing an enclosed questionnaire. Data collection resulted in an 83% return rate. The results of this study indicate specific trends and implications. These trends reflect economic changes and imply further diversification of services with fewer staff members. This article specifically addresses trends, implications, and the present impact on populations that counseling and guidance personnel serve.

摘要:
There is a paucity of current information on training programs for elementary school counselors. Also, criticisms about roles and the need for specialized training for this group are contained in recent literature. This article presents the results of a national survey that focused on the differences in preparation programs for elementary and secondary school counselors. Data on specific courses and number of required courses for elementary and for secondary counselors are included.

摘要:
A total of 580 vocational rehabilitation counseling professionals from Rehabilitation Services Administration Region III responded to a 40‐item, forced‐choice questionnaire regarding perceived needs for training in the area of psychiatric rehabilitation. Although it was identified as least available, opportunity for continuing education was rated as the optimal vehicle for training rather than formal academic course work or agency in‐service programs. Translating psychiatric diagnoses into functional behavioral terminology was ranked foremost as a specific training need; training in career counseling and realistic goal planning and job‐seeking skills and job placement needs of the psychiatrically disabled client ranked second an

摘要:
The Choice Awareness system is based on the definition of choice as any behavior over which individuals can exercise some degree of control. A primary goal of consultation is to enable individuals to encounter their difficulties effectively; in Choice Awareness terms, this is a process of making effective choices. Among Choice Awareness concepts are a two‐way division into an OK to OD (overdone) continuum of choices, and the CREST choices: caring, ruling, enjoying, sorrowing, and thinking/working. In this article the concepts of Choice Awareness are summarized and Choice Awareness is discussed in general terms as a consultation process. Finally, Choice Awareness is considered as a collaborative consultation process through step‐by‐step comparison to the model of consultation presented by Kurpius (

摘要:
Early counselor training has traditionally stressed acquisition of basic listening skills while underemphasizing instruction in specific problem‐solving competencies. This bias may be partly responsible for such frequently observed supervision issues as counselor anxiety, inefficient counselor management of interview time, inadequate problem clarification, and premature intervention. Models for conducting brief, problem‐focused counseling seem well‐suited for teaching trainees the verbal skills and structuring methods that promote efficient problem clarification and resolution. The purposes of this article are to present one such model, to identify its skills requirements, and to discuss the advantages of using this model in practicum tra
