摘要:
This article serves as an introduction to log‐linear analysis, a technique used in the analysis of qualitative data arranged in multidimensional contingency tables. The steps involved in log‐linear analysis are presented in the context of an investigation of a personality characteristic of a group of counselor trainees. The references cited and supplemental readings allow interested readers to pursue the topic furt

摘要:
Almost a decade has passed since a number of counselor education programs across the country began offering an undergraduate major in guidance. The purpose of these programs is to provide undergraduates with a wide range of limited guidance skills necessary to function under supervision in helping capacities. Descriptive data about the graduates from these programs and evaluation of the training they received is needed. This follow‐up study of 101 alumni, representing five classes of undergraduate guidance majors, provides demographic data, male‐female comparisons in selected areas, information on graduate education completed, employment data, and a general evaluation of the training program. Implications of the findings for graduate‐level counselor education programs are also disc

摘要:
According to recent survey results, the doctoral comprehensive examination is still the most often used method of evaluating doctoral students for candidacy. Widespread dissatisfaction, however, on the part of both professors and students continues. This article gives suggestions for improving the written portion of the doctoral comprehensive examination.

摘要:
Leddick and Bernard review the counseling literature and describe the historical evolution of the practice of supervision from a polarized state to its current trend toward collaboration. The authors analyze several therapy models, and describe direct and indirect supervision activities. This article concludes by calling attention to assumptions in the counseling and supervision literature that have yet to receive the benefit of evaluation and research.

摘要:
The purpose of this article is twofold, to provide a review of applicable literature, information, and research in nonverbal behavior categories, and to encourage counselor educators and supervisors to consider additional research and investigations on the nonverbal behaviors of counselors and clients, supervisors, and trainees in actual counseling and supervisory sessions and situations. A brief model is provided to illustrate counselor educators' and supervisors' application and use of this information with novice counselors and its implications.

What is the responsibility of counselor education programs in more efficiently preparing students in the area of career guidance and development? This article attempts to explain one department's efforts in this important area. It explains the rationale, development, and implementation of a subspeciality, Career Development Specialist (CDS), in a counselor education program. Covered are areas such as historical/conceptual review of the CDS, competencies and courses, recruitment of students, and where graduates have located jobs. Finally, the implications for counselor education are discussed.

摘要:
Feedback is an important teaching skill for counselor educators and supervisors teaching helping skills and for practitioners employing skill‐training programs as an intervention for clients with relationship problems. Trainer feedback reports observable behaviors, describes how the trainee's performance deviated from or matches mastery performance criteria, and provides suggestions for improved skill implementation. By using a systematic, organized feedback delivery, a trainer can have powerful impact in promoting skill acquisition by trainees. This article describes the elements of trainer feedback, offers guidelines for giving and receiving feedback, and responds to common issues concerning the use of feedback in skill training group

摘要:
A relationship is suggested between the national image of the American Personnel and Guidance Association (APGA) and its membership requirements of graduate counseling programs. Citing the total absence of APGA membership requirements in training programs of one state, growing professional problems for APGA are predicted if the national perspective includes similar absences. I propose that counselor educators initiate the integration of APGA membership criteria with accreditation of graduate programs to enhance APGA's status as a national professional organization.
