摘要:
Although fairly recent to higher education, the broad concept and specifications of due process have had a major impact on the day‐to‐day operations of educational institutions. The due process concept and its accompanying rights and responsibilities is particularly applicable to counselor education programs in situations where a student is terminated from a degree program. This article discusses a recent United States Supreme Court decision involving a medical student in which the Court established guidelines for academic dismissals and terminations that are now applicable to counselor education progr

摘要:
Although the idea of primary prevention has become prevalent in the literature of the helping professions, actual services in this area have lagged behind. If counselors can develop the special skills needed to carry out primary prevention strategies, they may be effective in helping their clients find and maintain personal and environmental resources that they need to ward off problems. Primary prevention skills include educational skills, program development skills, and change agent skills, all of which can be learned in the context of master's level education or in‐service training.Mention the words “primary prevention” in mental health circles these days and you're a

摘要:
The Older Americans Act of 1964 generated not only interest and concern but also a myriad of programs directed at a unique and growing population of American citizens—the elderly. The unique features of this population come with a wide range of physiological, sociological, and psychological problems that need to be addressed by the professional counselor and counselor education programs which provide training for the mental health specialist. A major problem of this population, alcoholism, has received little emphasis in counseling literature. In an attempt to bridge this gap, this article presents physiological, sociological, and psychological aspects of alcoholism as they apply to the elderly. The discussion which follows the presentation sets forth conclusions and recommendations for counselor education programmin

摘要:
This article presents a model for the supervision of counselor training practica. The theoretical basis for the model is an instructional analysis of counseling effectiveness that borrows heavily from the discipline of instructional psychology, particularly in the areas of instructional theory and design, and the analysis of instructional skills and strategies. A discussion and integration of these theoretical elements is succeeded by a description of an instructional supervision cycle for use in counselor training practica that works on the basis of an instructional analysis of counseling effectiveness.

摘要:
This article surveyed counselors and counselor educators across the nation regarding their attitudes toward death education and grief counseling. Results were compared to previous research in this area, and it was found that death education and grief training has increased significantly in recent years. Results also indicated that elementary school counselors were more willing than junior or senior high counselors to prepare teachers to help in the area of grief. The primary reasons given by counselors for not attending courses, workshops, or seminars on death education were that training was either not available or not convenient. Counselor educators' reasons for non‐attendance varied from time conflict to lack of interes

摘要:
Neophyte counselors trained in the use of their own imagery to practice counseling interviews were compared with a similar group not receiving the training. The mental practice was hypothesized to have experiential value for neophyte counselors resulting in positive effects upon selected behaviors commonly found with counseling experience. Results indicated that the ability to discriminate differing levels of empathic responses, the ability to evaluate accurately one's own performance, and the amount of preinterview confidence were significantly higher for the mental practice group. However, the communication of empathy and the subjective evaluations of the counselors during the interview did not prove significantly higher. This article discusses the potential value of mental practice as a supplementary experiential training technique and some considerations for its use and further study.

摘要:
This study compared the level of self‐actualization of beginning and advanced students in a master's program in counselor education using the Personal Orientation Inventory (POI). The advanced students scored significantly higher than the beginning students on two POI Scales, Feeling Reactivity and Acceptance of Aggression. The beginning students were more like a sample of normal adults than a sample of self‐actualizing persons; however, the advanced students were more like the self‐actualizing

摘要:
This article relates an older peer counselor training program which was developed for paraprofessional volunteers, 55 and over, to assist elderly widowed people in their adjustment process. The training had three goals: to develop group cohesiveness, to broaden trainees' understanding of widowhood adjustment, and to develop one‐to‐one interpersonal skills. Training outcomes, including the findings of pre‐ and posttest assessment of attitudes, indicate that the training program was effective in eliciting widowhood and counseling attitude change, and in providing the trainees with the opportunity for personal growth. The results replicate other studies, demonstrating that procedures employed to train young counselors can be used to train elderly paraprofessi

摘要:
An eight‐item instrument was constructed to measure the skills represented by four of Carkhuff's dimensions (scales) of facilitative interpersonal functioning. These items consisted of stimulus statements on a color videocassette, introduced by a narrator and performed by actors. Subjects responded by writing what their verbal and nonverbal responses would be in the situation presented. Reliability coefficients (.77 and .80), concurrent validity (.75) and construct validity via factor analysis are presented. Results demonstrate the feasibility of this approach to measuring Carkhuff's dimensions. Suggestions for further research are include
