摘要:
This article discusses the effects that the training of raters has on estimates of role fidelity and performance consistency of coached clients. The data support the contention that failure to measure and report indexes of role fidelity and performance consistency seriously jeopardizes the high levels of internal validity that the coached‐client analogue research model permits. It also precludes research replication. The findings also suggest that the training of raters in role‐component observation greatly enhances the reliability of the verification procedures proposed by Whiteley and Jakubowski (19

This article provides a strong rationale for renewal programs in career guidance and counseling. The rationale is based on the expressed needs of counselors, counselor educators, and supervisors, and the needs of clients, as well as on major position papers of APGA, ACES, and NVGA. The APGA Counselor Renewal and Development Professional Preparation and Standards Committee has clearly stated that counselor renewal is a professional imperative for those who seek to remain effective helpers. The ACES position paper, “Counselor Preparation for Career Development/Career Education”, also clearly points out the need for renewal in career guidance and counseling. 摘要:
This article develops the premise that empathic responses have cognitive as well as affective aspects and that the cognitive aspect can be represented by inference or intuition. Helpers process interpersonal data inferentially or intuitively in developing their empathic responses. Effective helpers have access to both cognitive modes. The training of counselors, however, is skewed more heavily to the development of inferential skills. This article suggests that counselor educators give more training attention to intuition and presents some preliminary guidelines for providing that training.

The increasing use of paraprofessionals in the counseling profession acknowledges the many contributions such individuals provide in direct client service and in assistance to professional counselors. To educate competent paraprofessional counselors, however, their training programs must be adapted to their particular needs and circumstances. This article describes a current program that was designed specifically to prepare paraprofessional counselors.
