AbstractX‐ray studies have been made of the detonation of cartridges of various explosives that had been compressed and reduced in diameter and then fired with a delay detonator. In several cases the detonation wave that travelled along the cartridge in a direction opposite to that in which the detonator was pointing, i.e. the retrograde detonation wave, appeared to die out completely. This was not observed in similar studies with cartridges of normal densities and diameters. It is suggested that the possibility of fading of the retrograde detonation wave is connected with the way the explosive compacts under pressure, this compaction being influenced by the nature of the crystalline components of the explosive.The study suggests one mechanism by which undetonated explosive might be left following delay round shotfiring in coal; earlier shots, causing desensitisation and consequent failure of the retrograde detonation wave. If failure of the retrograde detonation wave occurred, appreciable quantities of undetonated explosive could remain which on becoming mixed with neighbouring coal dust might be capable of deflagrating, even at atmospheric pressur

AbstractLa méthode utilisée de fa¸on courante au CERCHAR est la suivante. Les essais sont effectués dans un mortier d'acier qui est fermé hermétiquement par un disque de cuivre résistant à une pression d'environ 300 bar. Dans ce mortier, l'explosif essayé est disposé, sous forme d'une cartouche, à une distance de 15 cm d'une charge de poudre noire qui est mise à feu par allumeur électrique. Suivant l'importance de la charge de poudre, il se produit ou non une déflagration de l'explosif. Celle‐ci est mise en évidence par la rupture du disque de cuivre. D'un essai à l'autre, on fait varier la masse de poudre noire, de fa¸on à obtenir une estimation de la masse qui correspond à une probabilité de 50% de déflagration de l'explosif. AbstractThe deflagration behaviour of explosives, in particular of permissible explosives, was investigated under various experimental conditions. The initiation of a methane/air mixture was provoked by a deflagrating explosive in a gallery under conditions of low resistance stemming. The results indicate that the initiation probability of an explosive methane/air mixture depends on the chemical reactivity (ignition ability) of the explosive which is low for permissible explosives under the conditions given.

AbstractDas Prüfverfahren “Gap‐Test” ist bisher bei gewerblichen Sprengstoffen nicht in größerem Umfang eingesetzt worden. Dabei scheint es sowohl von seiten der Sicherheit als auch der Funktionsfähigkeit interessant zu sein. Dieses Prüfverfahren wird anhand einer speziellen Ausführung „Gap‐Test des BICT”︁ vorgestellt. Es wird über Ergebnisse an 24 gewerblichen deutschen Sprengstoffen berichtet. Die gefundene Empfindlichkeitsskala ist in guter Übereinstimmung mit der Erfahrung. AbstractAn equipment used for testing the response of watergel explosives to weak shocks is described. The main purpose of these tests was to investigate the shock‐initiating hazards when pumping watergel explosives of the non‐cap‐sensitive type. The explosive sample (weight ∼ 20 g) was confined in a steel cup and rapidly compressed by a steel piston. Tests were carried out with watergel explosives of both the cap‐sensitive and non‐cap‐sensitive types. In Bulkreomex (a pumpable watergel), a weak reaction was observed at a peak pressure of 1.7 kbar. AbstractDans les exploitations à ciel ouvert des mines et carrières, le chargement des cartouches en chute libre et le chargement de l'explosif en vrac par gravité dans les mines verticales sont réglementés en France par deux arrêtés. Le second arrêté s'applique aussi au chargement des bouillies en vrac par pompage.Les règles relatives aux conditions spéciales d'emploi s'appliquaient jusqu'à présent essentiellement aux explosifs nitrate‐fuel et aux premières bouillies expérimentées en France. Ces explosifs ayant une sensibilité faible, il suffisait d'en limiter l'aptitude à la détonation.Récemment sont apparues de nouvelles bouillies se distinguant des premières par une sensibilité plus grande ou par une aptitude à la détonation plus importante. Une révision des règles s'avérait par conséquent indispensable.Pour l'élaboration de nouvelles règles, il a été tenu compte des observations faites ces dernières années sur les bouillies et surtout des informations obtenues sur les explosions survenues en Amérique du Nord en 1975 et 1976, au pompage des bouillies. Ainsi, suivant les risques propes liés au mode de chargement et plus spécialement au matériel utilisé (pompe, appareil de chargement pneumatique), il est proposé de limiter la sensibilité de l'explosif d'autant plus que son aptitude à la détonation est importante. AbstractThe facilities in use at Dyno Industrier A.S for testing explosives underwater are described. Shock wave energy and bubble energy together with detonation velocity are measured with different degrees of confinement. The use of the underwater shooting station for developing new explosives and testing of different ignition systems is explained. Finally, some comments are made on the advantages and disadvantages of having a deep salt water testing station in a Norwegian fjord.

AbstractDer Versuchsaufbau zur Ermittlung der Sprengstoffenergie unter Wasser wird zur Vereinheitlichung vorgeschlagen. Die Form und das Gewicht der Sprengladung werden unter Berücksichtigung der verfügbaren Größe des Wasserbehälters diskutiert. Die Messung der Zeit zwischen der Detonation der Sprengladung und dem ersten Zusammenschlagen der Gasblase und die Auswertung der Meßergebnisse mit Hilfe der Formel von Cole werden ebenfalls zur Normung empfohlen.
