AbstractThe report gives an account of the discussions and the agreements reached during the 7th meeting of the Commission together with the full texts of the 18 technical papers presented to the meeting.Recommended standards and testing procedures were finally approved for the following:Ballistic mortarTransmission of detonation of ion‐exchanged explosivesTest detonators with 0.6 g and 0.25 g PETNMethod of testing the initiating strength of detonators.The following new themes were included in the plan for the next period of work of the Commission:Toxic fumes from explosives in blastingInitiation and stability of detonation of slurry and water gel explosives under different conditionsSensitivity of slurry and water gel explosivesThe underwater explosion testDeflagration and transition from deflagration to detonation.The Commission agreed on a change of its name. The new name will be: „EXTEST International Study Group for the Standardization of the Methods of Testing Explosives”︁. A suggestion for the Commission to seek a form for association with other international corporative bodies such as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), suitable for furthering the objectives of the Commission, was discussed and will be further investigated.The next meeting of the Commission will be in 1978 in Czechos

AbstractIn einem Sprengkessel wurden verschiedene Mengen an Nitropenta, Hexogen, Tetryl, Polyvinylnitrat und Ammonit 1 sowohl in Argon‐ Atmosphäre als auch unter Luft zur Detonation gebracht. Die hierbei gebildeten Reaktionsschwaden wurden gaschromatographisch analysiert. Der Gehalt an Stickoxiden wurde unter Verwendung eines NOx‐Chemolumineszenz‐Analysators ermittelt.Es zeigte sich, daß bereits eine geringe Menge Luft (4 Vol.%) in der Inertgasatmosphäre den NO‐Gehalt der Detonationsschwaden deutlich erhöht. AbstractBei der Zulassungsprüfung von Bergbausprengstoffen werden Sprengschwaden mit einer praxisnahen Sprenganordnung in einer Gesteinskammer der Versuchsgrube Tremonia erzeugt. AbstractDie Detonationsübertragung von selektiv detonierenden Wettersprengstoffen hängt in besonderer Weise von dem Einschluß der Ladesäule ab. Obwohl es für eine standardisierte Prüfung notwendig ist, eine einheitliche Prüfapparatur zu erstellen, dürften Versuche zur Detonationsübertragung unter praktischen Einschlußbedingungen doch von erheblichem Interesse sein.Zur Tagung der Europäischen Kommission 1972 war ein kurzer Beitrag vorgelegt worden, der sich mit der Detonationsübertragung verschiedener Wettersprengstoffe mit Ionenaustausch in Bohrlöchern in der Kohle und im Karbongestein über ein Hindernis von Acetatscheiben hinweg befaßte. Diese Arbeiten wurden fortgesetzt, wobei besonders eine Kombination von Luftabstand und Hindernis aus Acetatscheiben in Betracht

AbstractLes slurries sensibilisés à l'aluminium, produits par simple mélange d'une solution aqueuse de sels oxydants (nitrates inorganiques) avec des combustibles à l'état sec, peuvent être amorçcables au détonateur.Leur préparation se complète par addition d'agents de réticulation et d'allègement, qui agissent à bref délai après mélange et chargement en étui d'encartouchage ou en trou de mine: la bouillie se transforme alors en gel aqueux emprisonnant une multitude de bulles de gaz, qui sont autant de discontinuités de milieu.On pourrait croire que ces bulles d'allègement sont indispensables pour conférer la sensibilité au détonateur, comme c'est d'ailleurs généralement le cas pour les explosifs classiques ou les slurries sensibilisés par nitrates organiques.Nous montrons par résultats expérimentaux ayant une signification statistique, que les bulles gazeuses générées au dernier stade de la fabrication permettent certes d'ajuster la densité du gel à l'aluminium, mais que vitesse de détonation et également aptitude à détoner (au sens de sensibilité au détonateur) sont toutes deux nettement moindres lorsqu'il s'agit du gel comparé à sa bouillie‐mère d'origine, non encore réticulée ni allégée.Cette particularité des slurries sensibilisés à l'aluminium pourrait être en rappor

AbstractThe world's explosive industry is changing. New non‐nitroglycerin explosives of different sensitivities and physical characteristics are being developed. Many slurry explosives are mixed and pumped at elevated temperatures, and powder explosives will often be exposed to higher than ambient temperatures in the process equipment. explosives? Is it possible that different fractions of a powder explosive have different sensitivities? Which test methods can we use to evaluate sensitivity? Will the results tell us something we can apply in practical safety evaluations of explosives and process equipment? These are some of the questions we have asked. In this note some results from our work on sensitivity testing are reported. What effect has temperature on the sensitivity of “insensitive” explosives? Is i t possible that different fractions of a powder explosive have different sensitivities? Which test methods can we use to evaluate sensitivity? Will the results tell us something we can apply in practical safety evaluations of explosives and process equipment? These are some of the questions we have asked. AbstractEs wut Je eine Prüfmethode für die Detonationsfahigkeit von Sprengschlammen entwickelt, die sowohl die Bestimmung des kritischen Durchmessers als auch der kritischen Zündladung erlaubt. Außerdem ermöglicht diese Methode eine Brisanzmessung zur Unterscheidung unterschiedlicher Sprengschlamme. Die Prufmethode beruht auf dem Beschuß einer Stahlplatte. Der Sprengstoff befindet sich in einem Stahlrohr, das senkrecht auf die Beschußplatte gestellt wird. Der Sprengstoff wird mit Hilfe einer Verstärkerladung von oben her gezündet. Der Eindruck oder Durchschlag auf der Stahlplatte erlaubt eine Beurteilung des geprüften Sprengschlammes. AbstractIn a setback simulator a gunpowder charge is used to drive a heavily confined sample of explosive against a stationary plunger. The pressure on the sample, the sample velocity, and the acceleration of the sample are recorded. The results found show that the degree of confinement of the sample is an important test parameter. The results for civil AN‐based explosives show that water gels containing sensitizers are easier to initiate than the military explosive Comp. B, whereas non‐cap‐sensitive slurries could not be initiated in this test. There was no obvious difference in sensitivity between water gels with or without aluminium content. Contrary to this, ANFO containing aluminium showed a higher sensitivity than did pure ANFO. Critical pressures on the sample were in the range of 0.04 GPa‐0.14 GPa, and the corresponding sample velocities ranged from 8 m/s to 27 m/s. Sample decelerations when hitting the plunger were in the range of 30 m/s2
