摘要:
Histamine release was shown in the course of seven orthotopic homologous liver transplantations in the young Landrace pig. Elevated plasma histamine levels in the right atrium of the donor and recipient were found after introduction of anaesthesia, after exposure of the liver and its vessels, and following revascularization. The histamine release following revascularization is so massive that it can explain the hypotensive reactions observed in this phase of the operation. The increase of the plasma histamine concentration in the other phases of transplantation is so small that it is very probably without effect on the blood pressure. In the portal plasma, high plasma histamine levels were measured during the exposure of the liver, especially in the donor, but to a lesser degree also in the recipient. However, the liver completely took up this released histamine, and no increase of plasma histamine level could be demonstrated in the right atrium. Various possibilities exist to explain the development of hypotension following revascularization: anoxia, acidosis, elevated serum potassium levels, endotoxins, VDM, kinins, prostaglandins and the decrease of the circulating blood volume due to sequestration of blood in the transplanted liver. From the results of our experiments, however, it was concluded that histamine release plays an important role in the development of hypotension following revascularization.

摘要:
After revascularization of the stored orthotopically transplanted liver both calcium and potassium are liable to fall to low levels when arrhythmias are common and ventricular fibrillation possible. These cardiac abnormalities are worsened by citrated blood transfusion and by the alkalosis which is artificially induced at this stage. It has been found safe to raise both potassium and calcium by a steady infusion over 2 h of 0.6 mEq/kg of calcium and 0.85 mEq/kg of potassium in a 10-percent glucose solution. This infusion has been started 5 min before circulation was restored through the donor liver in the recipient animal. Since the regimen was instituted cardiac arrhythmias have been less in evidence and ventricular fibrillation has not occurred.

摘要:
The preexisting humoral immunity of four normal human beings to nine species of lower animals was assayed by conventional hemagglutination, leukoagglutination and cytotoxicity techniques. The specificity of the heterophile hemagglutinins was assessed by cross-absorption experiments. Preformed antibody activity was lowest against chimpanzee and baboon, and only slightly higher against sheep and goat. Hemagglutination titers against the several species closely paralleled the man-animal phylogenetic disparity. Hemagglutinins were found to have species-specific and broadly cross-reacting components.

摘要:
The performance of three fascia lata valves in aortic position, a Sterling-Edwards, a Ionescu and a valve of our design, was compared in a test chamber with that of a Starr-Edwards valve. Pulsatile pressures and flows of shapes and magnitudes similar to in vivo conditions at the left ventricular and aortic levels were provided by a pulse duplicator system. Mean values ± 1 SD of measurements made on 10 successive strokes of the Starr-Edwards valve were the following: mean total pressure gradient (ΔPv–a): 5.0 ± 0.4 cm H2O, approximated energy loss (E): 269, 530 ± 19,440 erg/stroke, instantaneous energy loss (E): 247,040+10,600 erg/stroke and backward flow (Qbf): 1.3 ± 0.3 ml. The same results for the Sterling-Edwards, the Ionescu and the fascia lata valve of our design, expressed in percent of the Starr-Edwards mean values were respectively for ΔPv–a: 136, 182 and 66%; for 1: 147, 160 and 65%; for E: 208, 215 and 60%; and for Qbf: 131, 308 and 477%. The valve of our design was, therefore, shown to present a significantly smaller loss of energy but a more important

摘要:
A standardized microvascular operation was performed on vessels of almost identical size inbred rabbits. The investigation comprised two series, operations being performed alternatively on anticoagulated and non-pretreated (control) animals. Highly significant, better patency rates were found in those animals which showed per- as well as post-operatively satisfactory (therapeutic) levels according to systematically performed laboratory (trombo-) tests. By this protection a patency rate of about 2/3 was achieved after re-anastomosis of transected common femoral arteries, varying in external diameter from 0.8 to 1.2 mm.

摘要:
In rats subjected to trauma of 400 revolutions in the Noble-Collip drum, decrease of liver glycogen content, hyperpyruvatemia and hyperlactacidemia take place in spite of previous application of dihydroergotamine or propranolol, adrenal medullectomy or even medullectomy combined with reserpine treatment. It is concluded that in this type of injury liver glycogenolysis, and pyruvic and lactic acid production in muscle tissue are independent of adrenergic control.

摘要:
Administration of vasopressin in canine experimental acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis has been shown by us in previous experiments to be associated with decreased mortality and with preservation of pancreatic blood flow. The present experiments were directed to determining if the hemodynamic effects of vasopressin were primarily related to changes in the local (pancreatic) circulation or were due to more general (systemic) responses. Cardiac output, aortic blood pressure, pancreatic blood flow, portal pressure and splanchnic oxygen extractions were measured in normal dogs and in vasopressin treated and untreated pancreatitis dogs. The major effect of vasopressin in preserving pancreatic blood flow in pancreatitis is a systemic response and is due to maintenance of cardiac output.
