Four metal objects excavated at Tell Abraq in 1989 and dating to the Bronze Age and Iron Age were analyzed at the Technical University of Copenhagen. The results are reported here and the implications of the work are discussed.

Among the objects recovered at Tayma in 1884 by J. Euting and C. Huber was a small fragment of a stone relief. Overshadowed by the more impressive “Tayma stone” and by the inscriptions found on the site, this small fragment remained unaccessioned in the Louvre until 1986, although a drawing of it had been published as early as 1887. The present paper discusses the piece, suggesting that it shows affinities to Neo‐Assyrian art. Five Phoenician staters from northeastern Saudi Arabia, four of them previously unpublished, are presented and discussed. The potential significance of Phoenician material in this region is treated briefly.

The results of seven weeks of research in 1988 by a Belgian team from Gent University at ed‐Dur, in the Emirate of Umm al‐Qaiwain, are presented. Excavations were conducted in the southern part of the site. Close to the temple (area M) were found a well, three free‐standing altars, and a stone basin with a long Aramaic inscription. It is suggested now that the temple was dedicated to the sun‐god Shamash. The graveyard (area N), 100 m to the north of the temple, provided important information on burial rites. A large, free‐standing grave still contained many incised bone/ivory plaques. Around this tomb were found several smaller graves, five of which were unplundered.
