AbstractA spatial equilibrium model was developed to evaluate optimal production and distribution of durum wheat for milling and export under alternative trade policies. This study found that the US and Canadian FTA will benefit US durum producers more than Canadian producers. The EEP is important in maintaining US market shares in the world market and the ERP is important for France. Canadian market shares increase when either the EEP or the ERP is eliminated. This study also found that the competitiveness of the milling industry is less sensitive to changes in trade policies than that of the durum wheat industry. © 1993 John Wiley&Sons, Inc

AbstractMarket prospects for US agricultural exports through 1994 were predicted using econometric models which estimated US export growth rate as a function of the countries' trade‐related and macroeconomic variables. The models used include an approximation of the predictive model proposed by the FAS in 1990 (MFAS) and one which reflects the authors' view that additional variables need consideration (SR). The SR model turned out to be the better‐fitting specification and predicted the top markets to be Mexico, Hong Kong, Guyana, Canada, Japan, Turkey, France, Thailand, South Korea, and Costa Rica. © 1993 John Wiley&Sons,

AbstractThe purpose of this study was to measure the impact of government influence on competitive advantage and disadvantages in trade for case farms in the United States, Canada, and Australia. The study focused on government tax policy, major social programs, and farm programs and their role in determining the after‐tax changes in farmer wealth. The results indicate that government tax and social programs in Australia provide that country's farmers with a competitive advantage in trade, particularly for the small and medium‐sized farms. However, the lack of government farm programs in Australia generally offsets the tax and social program advantage. Canadian tax laws and social programs likewise provide its farmers with a competitive advantage over their US counterparts, but not to the same extent as Australia. © 1993 John Wiley&Sons,

Data analysis suggests that a crucial portion of the electorate, non‐networked voters, disproportionately opposed the tax. AbstractThis research analyzes the determinants of computer application adoption by US nurseries. A loglinear model, commonly used for the analysis of contingency tables, was adapted to the problem. This approach allowed the computer adoption and application adoption decisions to be considered together, and permitted the modeling of the effect of adopting a given computerized application on the probability of adopting another. The effects of firm size, age, retail sales percentage, and the number of permanent employees on the computerization of accounting, word processing, inventory, and marketing are analyzed. © 1993 John Wiley&Sons, Inc

AbstractThis article reviews the history and current state of international law governing the application of technical standards to international trade. Conflicts surrounding the use of technical standards in livestock trade are described to illustrate some of the limitations of current GATT codes. The article includes a case study of a US firm's difficulties in exporting high‐quality beef to Europe. These illustrations provide the basis for some concluding remarks concerning possible changes in the GATT technical standards agreement that may be made as a result of the Uruguay Round of trade negotiations. © 1993 John Wiley&Sons, I
